She was born in Sidney, NE to Raymond and Elsa Rogers. At age 5, she moved to Boulder with her mother and 2 brothers after her father died in an accident. She attended Washington Elementary, Casey Jr. High and Boulder High School, where she was an active member in many clubs and extracurricular activities. She continued her education at CU Boulder and received a degree in Education.
On July 19, 1953 Ellie married Don King, and they went on to have four children. Bringing the family together was what she loved most, she was happiest with a full house and everyone gathered at the table. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she was a tireless volunteer. She was dedicated to helping at her children's schools and activities, volunteered at church, delivered Meals on Wheels, helped at the Colorado Therapeutic riding center, volunteered at Boulder Community Hospital, as well as numerous other volunteer roles. She was always willing and ready to help wherever needed. In her role as grandmother, she spent countless hours caring for, imparting wisdom and teaching values to her eight grandkids.
Over the years she and Don traveled worldwide, thanks to Don's employment with United Airlines. They also enjoyed bicycling and took several memorable bike trips with friends. Over the years, she always stayed active and enjoyed participating in the Bolder Boulder, starting in the early 80's.
She was a 72-year member of PEO, a women's educational organization, as well as a member of the Doll Club for 35 years, both of which connected her to many long-lasting friendships.
Ellie has been a member of First Presbyterian Church in Boulder for most of her life. Her faith in God was an integral part of who she was and gave her a deep sense of peace and joy that she shared with all around her.
She lived her life with much exuberance, she was often known to burst into song spontaneously and she loved having a good laugh. She always looked for the good in everyone, and has been a role model for all of us.
Ellie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Don, children: Ketha (George) Boespflug, David King, Andy (Lindsey) Clayton-King, Nancy (Steve) Peterson, as well as eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private burial took place on August 11, and a Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Commons Church in Boulder on Saturday, September 11 at 11:00 am.
