Dorothy “Dotty” Jane Lindley, of Denver, passed away peacefully with her loving son, Jay, by her side on October 4th, 2021; ending her 30 plus years battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was 81 years old.
Dotty was born October 12th, 1939 in Johnson City, NY to Arthur D. and Margaret Cobb Lewis. She attended Vestal High in Vestal, NY and graduated from Kingston High School in Kingston, NY. Early in her career, she worked as a secretary for IBM in Kingston, and later for Boulder Valley Schools in Boulder, CO. She married Joseph V. Lindley May 3rd, 1959 in Kingston, NY. The couple moved to Washington State, later to Maryland, and then finally to Colorado in 1968.
Dotty enjoyed a great many things including floral design, cake decorating, and genealogy research. She was also an artist. Dotty very much enjoyed ball room & square dancing before Parkinson's and arthritis limited her activities. She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past Guardian of Job’s Daughters. She was also a member at Westview Presbyterian Church and an associate member at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Boulder. Dotty was active in several church groups and had sung in both church choirs. She was a member of IBM’s Second Generation Club, was active in Boulder Girl Scout and Boy Scout Organizations, and actively volunteered in her children’s and granddaughter’s schools. Dotty’s faith and her family were always foremost in her life.
Dotty was deeply loved and she will be dearly missed. She leaves behind one son, Jay Arthur Lindley (Lula) of Denver; granddaughters, Ashley Maria Lindley and Isabelle Kebebush Lindley of Denver; brothers, John Arthur Lewis of Altamonte Springs, FL, Arthur Dee Lewis of Titusville, FL, and Roy Told Lewis of Cocoa, FL. Dotty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joesph, who died in 2018; her son, Mark Joseph Lindley, who died in 1983; daughter, Laura Lee Lindley, who died in 1999; and her daughter-in-law, Eleonore Luis-Anaydos Lindley, who died in 2015.
A Celebration of Dotty’s Life will tentatively be held Monday, October 11th, 2021 at 10:30am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 4215 Grinnell Ave, Boulder, CO 80305, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Alkula officiating. A Private Burial Service will be held and Dotty will be laid to eternal rest with Joseph at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.
