Darrell LaVerne Lay

Darrell LaVerne Lay, 81, of Longmont passed away September 9, 2017 at Atria Assisted Living.He was born January 19, 1936 in Longmont, CO to D. Arnold and M. Genevieve (Chandler) Lay.Darrell graduated from Longmont High School, class of 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army and was Honorably discharged.He married Donna Schlagel in June of 1957. They were divorced in 1985. Darrell married Trudie de Haas on September 6, 1986.Darrell had a long career at Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant where he was part of the team manufacturing plutonium triggers.Darrell enjoyed traveling, horses, being involved with his children in 4-H and the Silver Spurs riding team and gambling that included trips to Las Vegas, Laughlin, NV and Black Hawk in CO. He also enjoyed watching the Bronco's. He was preceded in death by his parents.Darrell is survived by his wife Trudie of Longmont, daughter Kim Lenort (Allen) of Longmont, son Eric Lay of Fort Collins, step-sons Robert de Haas (Kathy), Alle de Haas (Karin) and Steven de Haas (Kelley), sister Marilyn Sack of Belleville, KN, nine grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.Per Darrell's request, no services will be held.
