Clarence Joseph Hirsh died peacefully Thursday, June 13, 2013 at his home in Longmont. He was 83 years old.He was born May 21, 1930 in Kinsley, Kansas to Frank Joseph and Josephine (Schmitt) Hirsh. He graduated from Windhorst High School, Windhorst, KS and St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS.Clarence joined the United States Marine Corps on Dec. 20, 1951 and was honorably discharged on Dec. 3, 1953.On September 28, 1955 he married Janice Jane Schmidt in Kinsley, Kansas. They moved to Boulder, CO in 1961 where he and Janice raised their 6 children. He has lived in the Boulder - Longmont area ever since.Clarence and Janice were members of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (Boulder) and Saint John the Baptist Church (Longmont). He was strong in his faith and enjoyed spending time with his church community.Clarence and Janice were self-employed as independent Amway business owners. Their business provided them the opportunity to travel and form many long lasting friendships.Clarence enjoyed many outdoor activities including gardening, fishing and golfing; much of which he did with his children and grandchildren. He was also artistic and expressed his talents in writing and painting.Clarence took great pleasure in simple things like sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee and watching the birds. He could also be found enjoying a lively game of ping-pong with his kids or playing cards at the kitchen table. He will be remembered for his quite, peaceful nature and his devotion to his wife and family.He was preceded in death by his wife Janice on April 8, 2010 and two brothers Victor and Don Hirsh.Clarence is survived by four sons Steve (Susan) Hirsh of Boulder, Kent (Jeanine) Hirsh of Longmont, Mike (Cessala) Hirsh of Longmont and Tom (Tina) Hirsh of Niwot; two daughters Susan (Jeff) Kincaid of Greeley and Ann Marie (Kevin) Brown of Highlands Ranch; eighteen grandchildren Josh, Risa, Matt, Mike, Mark, Bradley, Leanna, Rachel, Carissa, Brittany, Jonathan, Andrew, Elizabeth, Gabrielle, Daniel, Patrick, Jacob and Katie; and five siblings Theresa Rome, Alfreda Liklider, Mildred Conrardy, Paul Hirsh and Christine Wright.Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday, June 16, 2013, with Vigil/Rosary Prayers at 7:00 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:00 am Monday, June 17 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A reception will follow Mass immediately at St. John's.
