Charles Manning passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Charles was born in Boulder Colorado and graduated from Boulder High School. He later attended Immaculata University, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Biology and Secondary Education. For the past sixteen years Charles taught Honors and AP Biology at Unionville High School in Chester County, Pennsylvania, where he lived with his wife Cathy. Before that, Charles traveled the country for over twenty years performing with the ProAction Team trampoline program, formerly known as Positive Air. As one of it’s founding members, Charles was instrumental in developing and implementing this successful character building program for children of all ages. A talented gymnast himself, Charles began his career working with children as a gymnastics coach at the Boulder Recreation Center in Colorado. Other than teaching, the job Charles enjoyed most was bartending on weekends at the Marshalton Inn in Chester County, where he delighted customers with his quick wit and sense of humor.
Charles loved teaching biology at Unionville High School. He would often say how honored he was to work at one of the top schools in the country. Charles enjoyed getting to know his students and was very proud of their many accomplishments. He would often celebrate their successes by doing handstands on his desk. In his own words, “Love... is how you go about doing your job.”
Charles spent every summer at his home in Colorado. There he enjoyed hiking in the mountains, back packing, camping, and fly fishing. Charles was a certified river guide and loved kayaking and white water rafting, especially on the Colorado River. One of his favorite things was organizing extended rafting trips with his friends and his son.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Raymond. He was the proud father of Jereriah Manning (Kelley Zamzow) and caring grandfather of Kaylee Manning. Surviving siblings include Bob Dodd (Corina), Connie Buswell, Barry Dodd (Debbie), and Barbara Vits (Scott). Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Margaret Manning.
At his request, a small private celebration of life was held for close friends and immediate family.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Charles Manning Scholarship fund at Unionville High School.
