To Pastor Tom and family,
Our hearts are heavy for your family's grief but full of the joy of Carey's home-going.  To us, she was a spirit-filled woman of grace and patience. We enjoyed the brief time we had to know her but she was always kind and grateful for the times our El Camino church flew her to Tucson to spend time with you, Pastor Tom. I know that you have many many wonderful memories to lessen the burden of loss.  Know that prayers fly up for you and your family.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I think of Carrie any time I eat licorice, as she accidentally put anise in some chocolate chip cookies that she mailed to me at camp!
Thank you so much for your life and ministry. It was such a blessing to have somewhere to go on Sundays in 2004-2005, and getting to share meals with you those few times was a real treat.

Dear Pastor  Tom and family,

I was saddened to hear of Carey's passing , but know that my mom, Robin, met her rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior. Carey was one of the few people who really helped me and my family feel welcome at Calvary. I understand the sorrow of the void that you all are feeling right now, but I hope that you take comfort in the knowledge that you will see her again. "Our worst day is their best day." is a quote that has been with me through all of the grief, as well as the scripture, Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged."
I pray for peace of mind and heart through this hard time.

Dearest Tom and family,

Carey was such a bright and beautiful light in the world! She walked in grace, love and wisdom and had a way of seeing the truth, like no one I've ever known. In her presence was the warmth of God. We will miss her desparately.

Oh dear Tom. I’m so sorry for your loss, but Jesus gain. You spoke so lovingly of your beautiful wife,  and I know you will miss her terribly. Please let your family know we in Sheridan are praying for all of you.           In Gods peace and love. Melody Thompson. 

Dear Tom, Nathan, Christina, Susanna, Priscilla and Seth,
Carey was one of my dearest friends in this life. We met freshman year at Wheaton and remained friends for nearly 50 years. She and I traveled together, shared adventures and secrets together,  and prayed for each other through the most difficult of times of our lives. 
She welcomed me into the family home many times, and she was the best gardener, cook and truly had the gift of hospitality. 
Watching her seek to remain in the center of God's will through her entire illness has inspired me spiritually, even though losing her on this earth is an enormous loss to all who knew and loved her. 
My family will continue to pray for you all, to have the Lord's comfort and peace.
She ran the race, she ran an awesome race, and she made it! May we all do the same! Praise God we will see her again!

There are far too many memories that we have of Carey and the whole Hovestol family.  She was the rock and a great model of the Proverbs 31 Woman.  She ran the home with a strong hand and was Tom's partner in the raising of all the children.  

It was always an honor to visit your home for various activities and knowing that our kids and the Hovestol kids were part of the great children's and youth programs at Longmont Calvary.  

Carey often was in the background but was always there to be Tom's right hand and a wise friend and counselor to the other women of the church.

We loved her and know that she will be missed.  Our prayers for comfort and strength as the whole family processes and learns to live on with only Carey's memories and the values and love that she passed on to each of the family.

Our hearts are full of sorrow and eyes full of tears, but at the same time we are rejoicing in the knowledge that  sweet Carey is now in the arms of our LORD rejoicing with no pain or tears and that one day we all will be rejoicing with her.

Dear Hovestol family.  My deepest condolences on the loss of your wife and mother.  I worked with your mother at the VA hospital, first at Denver then in Aurora.  She was one of the kindest people I had worked with there.  She always had a smile when we would see each other.  While I did not work in nursing, I saw her regularly when I was out and about in the facility and when I needed something from her department she was always willing to help.  You had a very wonderful person in your lives.  She will be missed by many of her coworkers and patients.  God bless you.

Dear Pastor Hovestol and all of Carey's family, 

I was so sorry to hear about Carey's illness and passing. I know I join so many in prayer for your family and sorrow for all of you. 

I particularly remember how Carey was so kind to, and aware of, people whom others might have just overlooked, and this is something I really admired in her. She made special efforts with people who weren't necessarily "well-known" in the church and just seemed genuinely to care. Such a wonderful quality!

May God give much comfort and encouragement day by day, and may His peace and grace be richly felt.

You’re all in my prayers right now.  Carey was an amazing woman.  She graciously volunteered when I held hearing and vision testing at the school I worked at and she also imparted wise words when needed.  I was blessed to have been in your church for many years.  Tom, your preaching was amazing and your wife’s ministry equally so!  Blessings to you all.
