August (Augie) Roemer was born in Herrin, IL. July 26, to Frances and Rev. Harold the eldest of 4 boys. His three brothers have preceded him in death.
Augie graduated from Greenville HS Greenville, IL, where he excelled in basketball and baseball culminating in a tryout with the St. Louis Browns. He was drafted into the US Army and was a member of the 45th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. After the truce he was a member of the Military Police. Upon discharge and returning home to Hudson, NY he became employed by IBM, later moving to Boulder, CO and San Jose, CA.
Augie married Lorraine Anderson in Hudson, NY on October 15, 1955. His father was the officiant at their wedding. They had 3 children Deborah (Nick Rucker), Mark (Marci Knaus-Roemer), and Karen (Mark Hoffman).
He is survived by Grandchildren Brittny (Jeremy Rogers), Rhonda, Robin, Samuel, John and Caleb Hoffman, and Diana Austin and Great Grandsons Mac, Bo and Ty Rodgers and Great Granddaughter Rio Rodgers. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Augie continued his love of sports by coaching boys baseball and playing softball into his mid 50’s. He was a collector of toy trains and enjoyed running those trains at his home. He became a Denver Broncos fan and was a season ticket holder for many years. Augie became a real estate licensee specializing in property management, until his retirement.
Augie and Lorraine had the opportunity to enjoy many trips to Mexico from Los Cabos to Puerto Vallarta to Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Lorraine and Augie were married for 68 yrs. They met many people from all over the world but especially enjoyed meeting some St. Louis Cardinal fans who loved the cards as Augie did.
He was able to take in a honor flight to Washington, DC, in September 2017, with his guardian Erica Shields (Mrs. Colorado 2016), which he thoroughly enjoyed.
There will be a visitation on Friday July 19, 2024, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, starting at 1pm until the start of the service at 2pm, 640 Alpine Street, Longmont, CO 80504.
A funeral service will be held Friday afternoon July 19, 2024, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, at 2pm, 640 Alpine Street, Longmont, CO 80504.
The internment will take place on Wednesday July 24, 2024 at 11:30am, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO, 80236
