Arthur Evans Schneider was born January 29th, 1941 in Anaconda, Montana, the youngest son, by 59 minutes, of Ronald Schneider and Evelyn Evans Schneider. He graduated from Anaconda Senior High in 1959 and from Colorado State University with a major in electrical engineering in 1964. While at CSU he and his twin brother served in the Army ROTC. He met Pamela Caroline Spitler at Martin Marietta in 1963 and married in 1964. They settled down in Longmont, Colorado where they raised their three children, David, Lisa, and Scott. Art retired from IBM in Boulder in 2005 after 40 years of service.
Art touched the lives of many. He was the consummate Christian, both in his faith and devotion to God and in his approach to his life and relationships. He was an active member of Westview Presbyterian Church beginning in 1966. Art was loving and genuine, with an unassuming wit. He taught us to value integrity, to appreciate sports, to be musical, to strive for excellence in all we do, and to help people in need. Art lived by the mantra, “you have a choice every day regarding the attitude you will embrace”.
Art was an avid runner who completed countless local races well into his 70s and ran the Bolder Boulder over 30 times, often placing in the top ten in his age group. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying the mountains for fishing, camping, hunting, and skiing adventures. He was a dedicated fan of the Rockies and CSU Rams and played varsity baseball at CSU, where he turned an unassisted triple play. And Art was an original DIYer who could fix anything, from his prized RV to the weekly Sunday pancakes.
His life continues to be reflected in the lives of those he loved: his wife of 57 years, Pam Schneider of Longmont; his son and daughter-in-law David and Jill Schneider of Pullman, Washington and grandchildren Carson and Kate; his daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Tim O’Brien of Longmont and grandchildren Kyle, Sean, Alec, and Kelsey; his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Shelly Bacon Schneider of Longmont; his older brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Robbie Schneider of Huntsville, Alabama and their children Sheri, Sandra, and Roger; his twin brother and sister-in-law Lowell and Ginny Schneider of Walla Walla, Washington and their children Dan, Jeff (deceased), and Courtney; and countless friends who will cherish their memories of good times together.
A celebration of Art’s life will be held on Friday, July 23rd at 1:00pm at Westview Presbyterian Church in Longmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Westview Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund and to the Anschutz Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
