Peacefully, with her children surrounding her at home, Marjorie Bernice Way (nee Forman) passed away on December 8, 2020, in her 97th year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. David C. Way (2011). Loving mother of Marilyn (Paul), Rob (Debbie), and Steve (Timolin). Cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Craig), Melissa (Jeff), Abby (Ben), Kristen, Jason (Samantha) and Meaghan (Paolo), Kieran and Ethan, and great-grandmother to Leah, Edwin, Charlie, Clarence, Ada and Quinten. Dear and beloved friend to Barbara, Beverly, Antonios and Ellen.
Marjorie was born in Ingersoll, Ontario, in 1924, to Leila and William Forman. Pre-deceased by sister Marion (1944). She moved to Toronto at 19 to study to become a dental nurse, and eventually met her husband, David. The two of them moved to Ann Arbour, Michigan, for David to complete his orthodontic training, and then settled back in London where David started his orthodontic practice, and Marjorie became his dental nurse.
Marjorie will be remembered for her strong, feisty personality and her love for family. She enjoyed her trips with David to Florida where she was socially active with pool exercises, ceramics and many happy cocktail parties with friends. Summers at her cottage were filled with family, friends and “lazy days” on the beach. An avid bargain hunter, Marjorie never shied away from a Bay Day sale (often opening and closing Bay card accounts on the spot to get a bargain), or having a debate with a salesclerk about the price of a sweater. Having luncheon bridge parties with her girlfriends was another favourite social activity. Marjorie was a true chocolate lover, and never turned down the chance to enjoy chocolate truffles with son Steve, milkshakes at the Pink Hotel, a Wendy’s Frosty with son Rob, or “share” a double chocolate dessert with anyone who was willing. She also never turned down a Culbert’s donut. Marjorie was forever spoiled… nurtured lovingly by daughter Marilyn with daily attention, homemade meals … and was always loved unconditionally.
Marjorie was a very faithful person, actively involved in her beloved Bishop Cronyn Anglican Church. She enjoyed her volunteer work there with the Altar Guild, the Anglican Church Women, and various other committees. She also enjoyed volunteer work with the May Court “Nearly New” shop.
Marjorie’s eight grandchildren will always remember their grandmother’s love of nursery rhymes, her singing “I love you, a bushel and a peck” to them, and yearly trips to the Eaton’s Santa Claus breakfast. Another favourite was shopping with Marilyn and her granddaughters for that special bathing suit in Florida, or Christmas shopping at Masonville Mall, the Galleria, and Kingsmills. She enjoyed card games of Crazy Eights, Hearts and Gin Rummy, and was a fierce Scrabble player with her two sons.
Marjorie lived a full life of love, family, travel and friendships. She would most definitely call it … “top drawer”!
A special thank you to Marjorie’s nurse Denise, Dr. McKeough, and caregivers from Home Care by Angels, Home Instead, and Paramed throughout the last ten years. We especially thank the ones who were with her during the last few weeks. Your kindness, compassion and devotion to creating a safe and nurturing environment for Marjorie will forever be remembered. If desired, donations in memory of Marjorie may be made to to the Canadian Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, or the charity of your choice.
A funeral service will be held on December 14, 2020 at Needham Funeral Service. Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, the service will be limited to immediate family only. When once again we are permitted to gather together, a celebration of Marjorie's life will be organized for all of the friends and family who were dear to her to attend.
Condolences, memories and expressions of sympathy may be left for the Way family at www.needhamfuneralhome.com
