Peacefully at home with her family surrounding her, our Mama passed away November 14 2015. Lydia was born in Ukraine August 4th 1939. Her parents Andrew and Olga Spivak, along with her two brothers Nick and John made their way through Europe to Canada. They settled in London, where she met and married her husband John Schewtschenko in 1957. Lydia was loved by her family and friends and will be truly missed by all who knew her. Her smile and laugh was infectious. Lydia and her family were committed to the Ukrainian youth organization ODUM and were avid supporters of the Ukrainian children's camp Ukraina in Dorchester Ontario. Baba Lida will be missed by Matthew (Melissa), Andrew, Michael, Slavko, Taisa, Ala, AJ and great-grandchildren Henry and Ziggy. Predeceased by her loving husband John and brothers Ivan, Dmitro, Nick and John Spivak. Lydia will be missed by many close friends and relatives who she met along her life's journey. Visitation will take place at Needham Funeral Home (520 Dundas) on Wednesday November 18, from 6:00pm-8:30pm with panachyda at 7:00pm. Funeral service on Thursday November 19 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity (151 King Edward Ave) at 10:00am with a graveside following at Mount Pleasant. In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to ODUM Canada in support of Lida's loved Children's Camp at the Ukrainian Vacation Resort, 3375 Gore Road, London Ontario.
