He grew up on the shore of Lake Erie swimming, fishing, and boating. After graduating from high school he completed his Bachelor of Science in Physics at Miami University of Ohio and a Master's Degree in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh he moved to Cleveland with his wife Judith and worked at NASA Lewis Research Center and both of his daughters were born here. He then moved to Livonia to work at Ford Motor Company. He worked in a group that specialized in suspensions and has several patents for some of this work.
Once both of his daughters graduated from college he bought a boat and named it Tuition Free. He became a member of Dearborn Power Squadron dragging my mom along. He and my mom traveled throughout the water region from Port Huron to Put-in-Bay to enjoy many of the I-LYA Regattas throughout the years. He made use of his engineering skills and ran predicted logs both regionally and nationally with his daughter, Kathryn as his navigator for many of these contests.
In the winter months, he worked on the window team restoring the Piquette Avenue Plant Museum and running model trains with the Ford Model Railroad Club.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Judith, his parents William & May Stewart, his sister Ida Kennedy and his daughter, Kathryn. He is survived by his daughter Ann (Jay Akers) Stewart-Akers, his grandson Kyle, his sister-in-law Margaret (Charles) Skalos, and nephews Daniel Kennedy, Kennith Kennedy, Mike Kennedy, Matthew (Tina) Skalos, Jason (Lauren) Shorr, Philip (Ana) Skalos.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 15, from 4:00-8:00pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Friends and family will continue to gather Saturday, November 16, from 1:00pm until the time of the funeral beginning at 3:00pm. A live stream of the service will be available.
