Teresa “Terri” Lynn Shipp was born on August 11, 1966, in Dearborn, Michigan, to her loving parents, David and Leona (Lanczynski) Shipp. On February 17, 2024, Terri peacefully passed away under the compassionate care of Angela Hospice, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Terri shared 28 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Douglas Thornburg. Their union was a testament to the strength of their love and commitment to each other.
She was a dear sister to Debbie Nelson, Jackie Schley, Chris Shipp, and Judy Crow, and a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Terri's presence in their lives brought joy and warmth, and her memory will forever remain in their hearts.
Terri earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan. She excelled in her professional career at Ford Motor Company, leading many initiatives and supervising several global teams of engineers in powertrain software and systems. The company acknowledged her skills when she was selected to move to the UK for several years in order to startup a new software team. She cared deeply about the next generation of engineers and so was a lifetime member of the Society of Women Engineers and the lead recruiter for Ford’s SWE initiative.
Terri also found solace and joy in traveling all over the world exploring new cities and natural wonders with equal delight. She deeply enjoyed all the people in her life frequently traveling with groups of friends or flying her mother to the UK to visit and travel with.
Terri was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 which became metastatic in 2016. She focused her adamant will on beating this disease, learning deeply about it and supporting others by being a member of many cancer support activities.
Terri's passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her. Her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation to honor Terri's life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a service at 4:00 PM at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home. In celebrating her life, let us remember the joy she brought to our lives and the love she shared with each of us.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: METAvivor, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Gilda’s Club or Angela Hospice.
