Beloved husband of (the late) Elmira Simpson for 56 years. Loving father of Rachel E. (Jonathan), Trisha Anne (James), Eileen Anne (Raymond) and Robert O'Connor. Cherished grandfather of Joshua, Rebecca, Sean, Britt, Tristan, Patrick, Eva, Julia, Kelly, Chase, Laura, Shannon and Kyle. Great grandfather of Wesley, Isabella and Lia.
Devoted son of the late Julia V. Simpson, brother of Shirley Snow and (late) Joanne York. Uncle Bob to many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Robert served in the U.S. Army as a young man, and was stationed in Italy and Austria. After his service and honorable discharge, met his wife Elmira. Robert knew right away Elmira was the love of his life, and often reflected on how lucky he was to have met and married her. They settled in Livonia to raise their family in 1966.
Robert spent his career in the grocery business, working his way up to store manager and then regional manager with various grocery chains. In the latter years of his career, Robert purchased his own stores, USA supermarkets, located in the downriver area.
Robert was very close to his family and extended family. He loved all of life's celebrations with his children and grandchildren. He was also very proud of his rich Irish heritage, and looked forward to celebrating St. Patrick's Day every year with his Irish clan.
Elmira and Robert's love centered their married and family life together. In their senior years, Robert was a devoted caregiver for Elmira, until her passing last year.
It was Robert's great faith and devotion to God that defined him. When God was ready for Robert to join Elmira in eternal life, he was surrounded by his children, holding his hands and praying the rosary.
We love you and will miss you so much Dad

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
