Raymond David Dreyfus

November 11, 1948 – December 11, 2024

Raymond David Dreyfus, beloved husband of Suzy, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Raymond and Dolores Dreyfus, Ray embodied the values of determination, kindness, and love throughout his 76 years.

Ray’s father dreamed of his son achieving a college education—a dream Ray honored and exceeded. Starting in Catholic school, then Cody High School, where Ray left his mark as a star athlete, holding the school’s fastest mile record of 4:16. He continued his education at Schoolcraft College, earning his bachelor’s degree at Wayne State University and later achieving an MBA from Michigan State University. His academic accomplishments were a source of pride and a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning.

It was at a Valentine’s Day dance at Cody High School in 1966 that Ray met the love of his life, Suzy Duchenne. They were married on July 26, 1969 in a Baptist Church, years later they had their marriage blessed in a Catholic Church. Their journey together was further celebrated with marriages in California in 1985 and to celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary in 1994, a beautiful service (French & English) in the same small church where Suzy’s father grew up, Bruay, France reflecting their shared love of travel and adventure.

Ray built a distinguished career in marketing and advertising with prominent automotive (Ray LOVED Cars) and advertising companies and later for a very large publishing firm. Even after retirement, his passion for education led him to become a professor at Schoolcraft College and Oakland Community College, where he inspired countless students.

Life brought Ray to many places, including a move to Southern California, a return to Michigan, a chapter in New York City, and a final homecoming to Michigan. In every place, he cultivated deep friendships and cherished memories.

Ray lived a life filled with passions that brought joy to both himself and those around him. He was an avid fly fisherman, golfer, who delighted in spending time with his three sons and grandson and friends. Thanksgiving and Christmas were particularly special holidays, marked by his love of gathering loved ones together. He was known to savor life’s simple pleasures, with glazed donuts, steak, and lobster holding a special place on his list of favorite foods.

Ray’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and gratitude. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving family, his beloved wife, Suzy his three sons Erik & Amie (Bartz), Jason & Mindi (Welch) and Nick. Grandchildren, Tyler, Emma, Gavin, Troy, Brianna and Makenzi.

Siblings, Karen Gariepy (Greg), Ilene Schleuning (Jeff) and David (Deceased) who honor his memory and the rich, fulfilling life he led. Plus, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.

The family would like to thank the Care Tenders Hospice, of Farmington Hills for their help, love and non-stop care Ray was given for so long.

There will be a memorial service later in 2025.
