Kathy Young, 66, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the home of her daughter Melissa surrounded by loving family. Kathy was born in Detroit, on February 3, 1953, the fourth of five children born to Armand & Dorothy (nee: Williams) Silvestri. After graduation from Wayne Memorial High School, Kathy furthered her education both at Schoolcraft Community College and Lawrence Institute of Technology, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. She was a practicing Registered Nurse at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia. After twenty-five years there Kathy retired from St. Mary and moved north to Roscommon, Michigan and continued Nursing Management at Grayling Hospital in Grayling, Michigan. After the birth of her granddaughters, Kathy returned downstate to be nearby her family and re-joined the staff at St. Mary Hospital family in Livonia as a Nurse Educator.
Kathy was a very social and outgoing person who was extremely devoted to her family and friends. In her youth she diligently worked for her parents in the family pizza business, "Gino's Pizzeria" located on Wayne Road in Wayne, Michigan. She enjoyed making greeting cards, traveling, attending the activities of her granddaughters. Kathy was a member of Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) to continue her education in her field.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Pembroke; granddaughters, Adrianna and Maya; siblings, Janice (Don) Martin, Judy Albert, Karen Silvestri and Larry (Tara) Silvestri. Three nieces, three nephews, four great-nieces and five great-nephews also survive.
Friends may visit on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 West Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152.
