Kathleen Kaeron PeConga Glynn was born on August 7, 1941 in Springfield, Ohio to Raphael Kaeron and Kathleen Mabel O’Brien PeConga. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Springfield, and Good Samaritan Nursing School in Dayton.
Kathie married Roger David Glynn on September 5, 1964 and worked as a Registered Nurse while her oldest child, Christopher was small. The three Glynns moved to Dearborn, Michigan, then to Cincinnati, where their daughter Tracey was born; they finally settled in Livonia in 1972.
Kathie flourished in Livonia, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1980. She was a heroic working mom, helping put both children through private high school and the University of Michigan, yet she always found the time to organize family vacations, support both kids’ musical interests, attend every concert, and celebrate every milestone.
When the kids were grown, she pursued her passion – Historic Preservation. Kathie earned a Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation and founded a consulting company, researching and documenting historic neighborhoods, buildings and cemeteries as candidates for protected status under the Michigan Historic Preservation Office.
Her love of history lent itself to her appreciation for hand crafted objects, especially historic textiles and quilts. She studied quilt patterns and their meaning, especially of American regions and periods, and collected the few quilts she could afford.
It also led her to join the team at Greenmead, Livonia’s living history park, where she supported fund raising efforts, curated antique wedding dress shows, and led cemetery walks in period dress.
And it inspired travel, where she collected a stone from every destination, got to visit the buildings where the history she knew so well took place, and where the biographies she read came to life.
Kathie assiduously researched her family’s genealogy; together with her brother Geoff and both families, they travelled to Marion, Indiana to learn more about their Native American ancestry and visit locations significant to their family and tribe – the Miami Nation of Indiana. Kathie made a point to model reverence for family, ancestry, and history for her children, and spent many happy hours poring over telephone books, microfiche, and civic records at the Clark County Historical Museum.
Kathie was a voracious reader – of biographies, history, architecture, mystery fiction. She rarely went anywhere without keeping a book within reach.
She adored all her nieces and nephews and remembered them all on their birthdays, at Christmas, and at all their milestones. She had a special bond with her granddaughter Jenna of Monterey, California, and Kathie moved heaven and earth to travel to Monterey twice a year and for every milestone.
Kathie was always there for those in grief or distress; she always knew just the right thing to say, and she made sure she was there to say it. She was absolutely honest, curious to a fault, generous with her time and talent, and infinitely patient. Kathie’s kindness endeared her to everyone she knew.
Kathie was preceded in death by her brother Timothy Raphael and her parents Raphael Kaeron and Kathleen Mabel PeConga. She is survived by her beloved husband Roger David Glynn of Springfield, Ohio, son Christopher Todd Glynn of Redford, Michigan, daughter Tracey Ann Glynn of Seaside, California, and brother Geoffrey Andrew PeConga of St. Louis, Missouri.
A visitation for Kathleen will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
