James "Jimmy" Stevens

James E. Brennan Stevens "Jimmy" was a natural leader whose friendly personality made it easy for him to make friends anywhere he went. Jim was born on July 11, 1985 at Joseph Hospital in Superior Township. His parents were Jim and Patsy Stevens. Jimmy was raised in Plymouth. He was optimistic in his outlook on life and was able at all times to be open and direct in his communication. Armed with a great wit, Jimmy was raised to be accepting of others and to implement a strong personal work ethic.

Blessed with a inviting attitude, Jimmy was able to relate well with others. Jimmy was raised with one sibling; Kelly McHugh. As a young child, Jimmy showed his creative ability in many ways. He was outgoing and animated. Jimmy enjoyed new activities and pursued a variety of interests. He took part in soccer, baseball, and being a Boy Scout. In his spare time he loved to play video games, and collect sports cards.

Known to others as a focused, logical, open-minded and a driven individual, James was able to utilize these qualities to succeed in high school. He graduated from Salem High School in 2003. Jimmy enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. His favorite class in high school was Spanish. In high school, Jim was a member of the Ski Club. The teacher he enjoyed most is his kindergarten teacher, was Mrs. Bright.

Jimmy enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were golf, poker, soccer, and playing with his kids. Because he liked to take risks, Jimmy was a perfect match for athletics. He was enthusiastic and confident about his activities. In high school, Jim played soccer. Recreational sports included soccer and golf. James was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on his list were the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, Tigers and Premier League Soccer.

When the goal of college was in sight, it became important to Jimmy. Again, his direct, “down to earth” approach served him well. He earned his Bachelors of Business from Western Michigan University. Jimmy enjoyed friends, partying and studying abroad in Rome during his college years. Friends and acquaintances found Jimmy an easy person to get to know. Those close to him would often praise his open, practical style of communication and relaxed approach to life in general. Jimmy was uncomplicated and straightforward in his relationships, which allowed him to accept people for what they were.

On May 25, 2013 Jimmy exchanged wedding vows with Rachel Ruth Cox at the St Johns Church of Northville, Michigan. Jimmy was attentive to Rachel's feelings, and he charmed Rachel and others with his gift for being able to give freely and generously. A good listener with an engaging personality, he was able to bring pleasure and love to the relationship. Jimmy was blessed with two daughters, Brooklyn Ruth and Cecily Rachel.

Jimmy was a very driven worker who was able to draw the best from others around him. A persuasive individual who was quick to make necessary decisions, Jimmy's strengths included being able to think on his feet. Gifted with an incredible ability to read body language, Jimmy was able to positively manipulate situations and motivate others in order to get a task completed. He was a good negotiator who enjoyed new challenges. Jimmy could multi-task, and he was endowed with entrepreneurial spirit, allowing him to think beyond standard norms when it came to resolving issues in his work environment. His primary occupation was a Managing Broker of Real Estate at Coldwell Banker Preferred.

Jimmy held his family's traditional values and as a result, faith was important to him. He was a life long member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

Travel and vacations were experiences that Jimmy truly enjoyed. He preferred to seek out excitement wherever he went and he was partial to vacations that were casual and laid back with an atmosphere of “live and let live.” He was willing to leave his plans open and flexible, just in case something more interesting came along. He traveled to Europe, Brazil, China, Germany, Mexico, and many other destinations.

Jimmy cherished his pets, and one of Jimmy's favorites was his dog Beamer.

Jimmy passed away suddenly on May 25, 2019 at Royal Oak Hospital. He is the beloved husband of Rachel. Loving father of Brooklyn and Cecily. Dear son of James and Patsy. Brother of Kelly McHugh (Greg). Jimmy is also survived by many relatives, friends and all his co-workers at Coldwell Banker Preferred Realtors.

Jimmy was the kind of person who could win others over easily. A concrete communicator, he relied on his senses to increase his involvement and awareness of others. He was always able to provide amusing repartee to his friends and acquaintances, offering a seemingly endless supply of quips, anecdotes, jokes and stories. He enjoyed his life and the experience of living it! This is how everyone will remember Jimmy Stevens.

Visitation Thursday 1-8 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home 37000 Six Mile Livonia (3/4 mile east of I275). Funeral Mass Friday 11 a.m. at St John Neumann Catholic Church 44800 Warren Rd Canton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to MI529 Advisor (College Fund) for Brooklyn and Cecily.
