Eli was a devoted father to Deborah (Scott) Tanas, Michelle Papp, and Kimberly (Michael) O'Dea, and a proud grandfather to Sarah Tanas, Ashley (Tavon) Tanas, Connor O'Dea, and Madison O'Dea.
Eli was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shelia, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years. He was also preceded by his parents, Gabor and Eszter Papp, whom he held dear throughout his life.
Born and raised in Hungary, Eli moved to the United States in his twenties, seeking new opportunities and a better life. He worked tirelessly as an ironworker, a profession that required strength, skill, and determination. Over his 30-year career, he built more than just structures—he built a life for himself and his family, one grounded in hard work, resilience, and a deep sense of pride. Eli’s journey from Hungary to America shaped the man he became, and his unwavering dedication to his work and family left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Known as the 'Mayor of Lake Pointe,' Eli’s warm and friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his neighborhood. He loved taking long walks around the block, always stopping to chat with neighbors and make everyone feel like family. He also enjoyed tending to his lawn and garden, taking great pride in his home and surroundings. During the winter months, Eli found joy in feeding the birds, appreciating their presence as much as they appreciated his kindness.
Eli’s love for life was evident in his passion for watching soccer, and his enthusiasm for game shows, with favorites like America Says, Wheel of Fortune, and Press Your Luck. Above all, Eli will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor. He had a unique way of bringing laughter into every room, always teasing with a smile and a chuckle that made everyone feel special.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting friendships. Eli will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Eli will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Memorial Gardens, where his memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Children's Special Olympics—two causes close to Eli's heart.
