After high school, George joined the U.S. Army where he served honorably in the European theatre of operations. In his working life, George was a carpenter in the Tool & Die Industry for Art Friend Construction, later known as M & R Construction. He met and married Caroline Moritz and together they raised their son and daughter in Livonia. George and his father, mother and other family liked to deer hunt in the Harrison and Rose City area, camping in a garrison tent! Water was collected from Wolf's Creek for the coffee, drinking water and bathing uses.
George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Caroline; son, Steven (Linda) Sloat; daughter, Sally (Fred) Gerdom; grandson, Andrew (Ruth) Sloat; granddaughter, Erin Sloat; step-granddaughters, Samantha (Scott) Baker) and Stephanie (John) Tomasoski; great-granddaughters, Alana and Addison and great-grandsons, Devon and Leo Tomasoski.
Interment will be at a future date with Army honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan
