Genesio Carmine Masciulli aka Jan, was born July 16, 1935 in the picturesque small town of Vacri Italy. As a child in 1944 -1945 he grew up during WWII where his town was invaded and occupied by the enemy soldiers. As his family struggled financially the decision was made to send him to America. On May 3 1950 his life changed forever when he came over on a boat at just 14 years old with nothing more than a photo of his Uncle he’d be living with.
As he settled down in his new life in Detroit with his Aunt, Uncle ,and 2 cousins he attended school for a short while until the buses went on strike where he began to pick up various construction jobs. At the age of 20 he enlisted into the US Navy. He served from 1955-1959 on the U.S.S. Valley Forge where he maintained his role inside the boiler room.
While home on a leave in 1956, he was setup on a date with a beautiful young woman, Sharon, as they devoted to one another with constant letter writing, they carried on a long distance romance and later married on August 16 1958. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this past August!
Jan and Sharon went on to have 4 children, Gina (Mark), Dean (Dina), Genesio (Cyndi), and Lisa (Kenny). They were later blessed with 11 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren, solidifying an incredible legacy.
Jan started his first company in the underground sewer and development industry in 1968 with his business partner and lifelong best friend Bob Paciocco. They were able to passionately flourish their company into what is now a successful family ran and operated company.
In 1976 Jan joined as a member at Meadowbrook Country Club where he spent many years on the golf course and enjoying social gatherings with his wife and friends, usually with a glass of red wine in hand.
Jan was living proof of the American Dream. His tremendous legacy will not soon be forgotten by his family and friends and is one to be celebrated for generations to come.
