1930 - 2019
Douglas Haller was born on May 31, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Ernest A. and Meta B. (nee Mielke) Haller.
He was baptized into Christ through the rebirth of water and the Spirit on July 9th, 1930 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Detroit where he was also confirmed in the faith on June 21st, 1942. Douglas distinguished himself throughout his years in the church as a confessor and supporter of Christ and His Word especially during stressful times of theological controversy in the church. He served his congregations as an Usher, Elder, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and Board of Education member. Douglas was received into membership at Emmanuel in Dearborn on February 15, 2011, where he has regularly received God’s grace in Word and Sacrament. Douglas was married to Eleanor Engel on March 1, 1957.
Douglas and Eleanor’s marriage was blessed with four children, Cynthia, Jeffrey, Timothy and Karen, whom they diligently raised in the faith. Douglas was a devoted and loving husband and father. He founded the firm of Haller Appraisal Service which is still owned and operated by his beloved family. Douglas enjoyed good health and good humor throughout his life. But after surviving a stroke his health and energy waned, though his humor remained. After a brief few days in home hospice, surrounded by the comfort, prayers, and love of his family, Douglas passed away early on the morning of Saturday, December 14, when angels then bore his soul, by God’s grace, to Abraham’s bosom where his travail has ended and he was delivered to eternal bliss where he and all the faithfully departed await the resurrection of all flesh at Christ’s return.
Douglas Haller is survived by his wife, Eleanor, his children, Cynthia (and Danny) Brown, Jeffrey (and Sherri), Timothy (and Lisa), and Karen (and David) Sylvester; his grandchildren, Heather (and Jim) Molnar, Adam (and Andrea) Haller, Doug (and Alicia) Haller, Dan (and Ruth) Haller, Donny (and Sara) Brown, Becky (and Shane) Roedel, Lindsay (and Simon) Reinke, Lauren (and Andrew) Szuminski, Ryan (and Alicia) Brown, Sara (and Jeff) Wickman, Rachel (and Curtis) Krallman, Josh (and Hannah) Haller, Cathy Haller, Ethan Haller, Matthew Sylvester, Caitlin Brown; his great grandchildren, Audrey, Gideon, Jimmy, Joanna, Owen, Clara, Gilbert, Reese, Isaak, Tanner, Roy, Vivian, Natalie, Gabriel, Camryn, Ava, Cash, Margot, Jack, Michael, Fred, Casey, and Calvin.
