Dolores was born to Louis Claud and Odell (Carriger) Mangus, on March 20, 1930 at the family home in Crystal, Michigan. She graduated from Grand Blanc High School. While working at AC Spark Plug in Flint in 1955, she met James Terhune on a blind date. Eleven months later, in 1956, they were married at North Baptist Church in Flint, where Dolores and her mother were members. In their almost 63 years together they lived in Clio, Flint, Birch Run, Livonia, and Plymouth; where they were living when James passed away on Easter Sunday, 2019 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Dolores was his constant companion and loving caregiver.
She leaves as her legacy 4 children: Tim (Cindy), Tom-who preceded her in death (Jaana), Ted (Lynn), and Todd. She also leaves to cherish her memory 6 grandchildren: Sarah (Jason) Lemp, Rebecca (Peter) Owens, Daniel (Julia), Dorothy, Zachary, and Emily; 11 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Judah, Carissa, Taylor, Adina, Olivia, Selah, Gloriana, Asher, Vontros, and Elijah; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Irene Urich, Charles Mangus, Cleo Krum, and Thelma Deal.
Dolores left her job at AC in order to raise her family, then reentered the marketplace when they were grown; first as a school bus driver for Frankenmuth Schools, and then as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service, ultimately retiring from the USPS. In their retirement years she and Jim enjoyed traveling to a number of foreign countries and spending winters in Florida, volunteering for ministries in Georgia and Florida along the way.
But the most important event for Dolores, that changed her life and eternal destiny, occurred in her youth, when God opened her spiritual eyes to see that she was a sinner in need of a Savior, and that Jesus Christ was the only one who was worthy to be trusted as Savior and followed as Lord. That day began a lifelong walk with Christ; knowing, loving, and serving him. Dolores loved God and his Word. She loved her family. She loved her church family, neighbors and friends. And we who knew and loved her are the richest of all people. She has left us a legacy that we can thank God for.
Dolores was a charter member of the Frankenmuth Bible Church, and since 2007 was a member of the Faith Bible Church of Livonia where a funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 2. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Face coverings will be required inside the building at all times. The service will be livestreamed on the church Facebook page at www.facebook.com/fbclivonia. Burial will take place at 3:30 pm on Friday, October 2, at the Birch Run Township Cemetery in Birch Run, Michigan.
