I am so sorry to hear about Dan. I went to school with him in high school and junior high and  he will be greatly missed and I'm so sorry for your loss. I just read about this. Kelly Seebinder aka Kelly Murphy then. 


I first met Dan walking by my house. He always made me smile, he would come by time to time and just sit and chat, he was a great person. I will really miss him.

Dan and I became friends in High school but more importantly Dan was there for me as an even greater friend here later in life.  Any time I needed a friend he was there for me.  And at times when he wanted a different opinion on life I got a call from him.  He was there when I needed to go to church and me for him.  He and I, as all feel about him, had a very special friendship.  There are no words to say enough how incredible a friend he has been, not only to me but to all!  I will miss you so very much my friend.  I know you are with your savior and for that I am happy for you but sad we no longer get to be greedy and have you here on earth with us. Dan and I worked together at Arbor Beverage for about 8 years.  No matter how crazy the day got, Dan could always make me laugh.  He seemed to find fun amidst the chaos, almost all the time.

Dan and I could relate from the get-go.  Not only did we have shared work experiences, eventually both as managers at Arbor, but my kids are also both extremely close in age to Dan’s.  We would confide in each other from time to time over the stresses, frustrations and/or joys of parenthood at that stage of life:  teenagers!  Dan was such a proud Dad.  Even as he would vent to me over some frustrating situation or thing that happened, he would always come full circle and say, “But I’ve really got great kids.  How can I complain?”  He never stopped bragging about all of their accomplishments (in the best way) from school, to band, to scholarships and GPAs, to personal achievements.  He was so proud of his kids.  Literally, could not be anymore proud than he was.

Dan was also extremely proud of his home with lake access.  We’d talked about his house hunt from the beginning and as soon as he saw it online, he called me into his office to show me the pictures.  After he toured the property his excitement was infectious.  Once he placed an offer “waiting on pins and needles” seemed more literal than figurative for him.  And then his offer was accepted and he was finally able to move in.  Finally able to start that next chapter of his life.  He was so excited and proud of his home there.

Dan will truly be missed.  My heart goes out to anyone in his life:  past or present.  May you find comfort in your memories of him.  Speak of him often and share your memories and thoughts with others, and may it bring endless smiles to your faces.  I especially hope that his children will find peace knowing that their dad was so proud of them, spoke of them often and could not have been more proud.  

So sorry to hear this sad news.  Dan was a good friend way back at Farrand Elementary and friendly baseball rival in high school.  Hope you all can find solace at such a difficult time.

I have many fond memories of Dan as a youngster playing sports with him.   We played a lot of wiffle ball and basketball.   I do remember him sitting on my basketball. He did that a lot.   Attached  are some pictures of Dan at the Knapp’s house on Hathaway in Livonia.   Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to Sandy, Shelly and family. 

Dan and me were colleagues in the wine business and have know each other for a very long time. Most of our conversations were around business, but recently we have had several personal conversations with a lot of laughs along the way. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Dan this summer through a neighborhood cornhole league we both played in and I will cherish those moments and I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be able to share those good times with Dan. He was a great man, a great friend, and a valuable colleague. He will be dearly missed. Until we meet again Dan, I will cherish those moments and memories of you that bring a smile to my face. May God bless Dan’s family and friends and comfort them during this difficult time. 

I met Dan in high school and have very fond memories of our time hanging out as high schoolers in Plymouth/Canton. Dan was an amazing athlete with a big heart. I always remember that he made those he met fell like his best friend.  Anytime you were with Dan it would involve some good music and a lot of laughter! My memory of Dan that makes me smile the most is when we went to a bonfire party somewhere in the country, and while at the party we got a flat tire. I was driving my Mom's car and we thought "we got this, it's no big deal". So we started to change the tire and when we had the jack almost fully extended, we heard a weird sound that we couldn't figure out. Then, all of sudden Dan raced to the back of the car since he noticed it was fallen off the jack, he ran behind the car to hold it up from falling to the ground. What we (I) forgot was that my Mom's car had self-leveling suspension, when we jacked it up the car automatically lifted the opposite side so the car was level. Dan saved me from a difficult conversation with my parents. Dan and I laughed so hard on our drive home we had tears in our eyes and couldn't talk or we would start laughing again.

I'm thankful that Dan always put a smile on all our faces and was the man that created so many fantastic memories for us all. Thanks to all the family and friends that posted pics, it is great to see them all! I pray that Dan's family and friends all continue to love life and love those around us as Dan did so well.  RIP brother....

I was boarding a flight from NY to Boston when I saw the unthinkable news about Dan. I don’t  understand why something so awful could happen to such a joyous person. We spent so many teenage summer days and nights playing catch - during games, at practice and just screwing around. Few people made me laugh like Dan. He was such a joy to be around everyday (except on those rare days he couldn’t get his fastball over the plate).  I can’t believe he’s gone. My wife Jackie and I have spent a career moving around the country and world and lost touch with a number of our closest high school friends. However, I saw Dan at a Michigan tailgate about five years ago and he was the same wonderful, joyful person who made playing ball and spending time with one another so special. I was proud to introduce him to my youngest son and recount some of the baseball stories from back in the day. We loved Dan and the special way he made people feel about life. Dan was a joy and I’m proud he had such an influence on me and so many others.

I can honestly say I never expected that I would be writing memories of you. We had a promise to each other and now we have to do it in spirit.  I will miss you teasing me and laughing (oh that laugh) no matter how irritated I got your laugh would make me laugh.  Im truly going to miss our talks. Thank you for giving Nick pointers on his pitching  it helped that you are both lefties.. Your wings were ready but our hearts were not.  I will keep you forever in my heart. I love & miss you

Dan and I were in the same class almost every year in elementary, and continued together in middle and high school. We rode the bus together for most of that time- and were always friends. I will remember Dan always for the joy, kindness, gentleness and fun that he took everywhere. I have lived in Scotland since the 1990’s, and Facebook has been my main connection to Dan in recent years. He never failed to wish me happy birthday, or comment on my daughters’ achievements. The same old Dan. What a beautiful soul to have lost in this world. Rest In Peace old friend. You will be lovingly remembered by many.

Dan and I grew up down the street from each other.  There was a group of of that spent our summers together. We would play football and go to the pond together. Those were great times. I cherish those memories. Dan was always kind and thoughtful. He will be greatly missed. Prayers to his family and friends. Rest In Peace my old friend. 

Memories are far too numerous to even begin to sort through.  Dan seemed to somehow know everyone and everyone loved him.  As a nervous, awkward high school kid, to have a friend like that was priceless.  Thank you, Dan!  The "Crafty Lefty" was a great competitor and teammate.  And of course a great friend.  We were co-workers on at least 4 jobs I can remember.  I cherish and will never forget all the good times, 'life milestones', and infinite laughter we shared.   I wish we were closer in recent years.  Sandy, I don't even know what to say, but I'd like to give you a big hug and please know we're praying for you and your family.   

I’m shocked and very sad to read this- Dan and I were very good friends at central middle school. Same bus ride in from the “sticks” every morning. My princess rotary dial phone would ring every evening - it would be Dan. We’d talk/not talk for sometimes hours. Watch tv together on the phone. He was one of my favorite people, making me laugh, getting on my nerves, and just generally being a 14-year-old guy.  We lost touch in high school but the memories will always be of a sweet, funny, unique person. RIP my friend.

I met Dan in high school and only had great times when I was around him.  He was sweet and funny and easy-going and laughed at so many things. He always cracked  me up and had that great smile.  One time I was with Jeanne Dillon and Doug Voight  and we ran out of gas in Doug’s  car coming back from the lake.  Nobody got  mad - we just joked  about how dumb it was. I didn’t know Dan is an adult, but my teenage years were better because I could call him my friend. I’m so grateful to have known him.

We are shocked and saddened to hear of Dan’s passing.  We didn’t know Dan well, but as our neighbor he was always friendly, said hello and stopped to talk.  I will remember him as the happy guy who walked a million miles around the sub.  Our sincere condolences to his Family. RIP Dan.
