Christopher James Panackia, age 64 of Plymouth, MI, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Loving brother of Tom (Cindy) Panackia and Patricia (Joe) Lucido. Beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He will be deeply missed by many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by brother Edward “Mike” (Connie) Panackia and parents Edward and Virginia.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear brother Chris Panackia, “The Cool One; The King”. Chris died suddenly Labor Day evening after working the Jazz Fest in Detroit. He was an award-winning sound engineer extraordinaire working with musicians in the Detroit area and around the world. From Motown artists, the likes of Diana Ross and Aretha Franklin, to the jazz great Earl Klugh and exercise guru Jane Fonda, his repertoire of artists he worked with could be a “Who’s Who” of the rock world. He toured the globe with Sponge and The Romantics. He mixed his sounds in clubs and arenas from Detroit to New York and Los Angeles. During his 40+ years in the sound business, he traveled the United States managing stages in Florida, Chicago, Tennessee, and even Faster Horses here in Brooklyn, MI. He was truly a master at his craft. Chris will leave a huge void in the Detroit music scene. He was a legend and gone way too soon at 64. A memorial concert honoring Chris is being planned for November 11, 2023, sponsored by Harpo’s Detroit. Many of the bands he mixed sound for will highlight the event. A beautiful tribute to a great guy and good friend.
A visitation for Christopher will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 from 1-8pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48152, followed by a live streamed memorial service at 6:30pm.
