Graduate of Irvington High School in 1966 and
Graduate of Glassboro College in 1970 with a B.A. in education
Pre-deceased by his mother Bertha Lasker Schiele and father William “Buster” Schiele
Wayne Schiele’s legacy is in the lives he touched that spanned a 51-year career as a respected teacher and coach. Coach Schiele, “Schiels”, as he was known to many, lived to be on a field, a wrestling mat, and at the golf range. Whether it was football, wrestling, track & field, baseball, or golf, Wayne devoted his life to his love of sports, his students, and his players. Wayne spent most of his career at the prestigious Newark academy, leading them to multiple state championships and state titles in wrestling and football. A true son of New Jersey, he also shared himself with Montville, Ridgewood, Panther Academy, Parsippany, Kushner Academy, and various other schools and districts throughout New Jersey.
Wayne’s success stories in sports began early in his career. He was proudly named the AAU NJ wrestling coach, a position he held for years, where he traveled with his players to Canada, Eastern Europe and South America. He also coached at the 1980 Olympic trials in Canada for freestyle wrestling.
Wayne’s love of academics extended past retirement, as he was elected to the Board of Education in Wharton and served for the last 7 years.
The only thing he loved more than coaching, was his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Pamela Tino Schiele, daughters Stacy Schiele Geiger (Eric) , and Jodi Schiele Arden (Matt), and son, Joey Schiele along with grandchildren, Truman, Lawson, Hayes and Hudson, his in-laws Salvatore and Joan Tino, brother-in-law Jeff Tino, Salvatore Tino (Valerie), a nephew and nieces, and many friends.
He’d also like everyone to know that this is the Jets’ year.
