Steven Ostrove

Above all, Steve loved his family – his wife of 50 years, Karen (Davis); his children: Elliot (Randi, and grandkids Jake and Sophie), Philip (Rachaelle), and Naomi were his precious jewels; his brothers Robert (Peg) and Jim (Fran), many cousins, nieces, nephews, and the lifelong friends and neighbors who became extended family.

Steve’s whole life was a model of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World). Always wanting to make the world a better place, he reached out to volunteer and help in every way and every place and made a difference in the many lives he touched. It is what he taught his children. When camping, “Leave a campsite cleaner than you found it.” Make the world a beautiful place, help all who need it, build for the future.

He found Amateur Radio as a teen, and it became a lifelong hobby. When communications failed on 9-11, Steve worked with Emergency Management to relay messages to Red Cross, Fire and Police. He also volunteered to use Ham Radio Communications for the NYC Marathon and the Celebrate Israel Parade.

An Eagle Scout, he modeled trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. He was prepared and did a good turn daily.

Always ready to help and to lead, he helped his community in every way possible. He was President of two synagogues and led Ham Radio and scouting organizations.

As a boy, and throughout his life, he loved discovering how things worked. His many professional accomplishments included a PhD in Biochemistry from Rutgers, a Masters from Adelphi and a Bachelor’s from SUNY at Albany. He held two Post-Doctoral positions - at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and Columbia University’s Harkness Eye Institute. He worked as a research scientist and moved on to engineering companies leading and reorganizing Validation and Regulatory Affairs Departments.

In 1999, Steve opened the highly successful Ostrove Associates, Inc. (OAI) to provide Validation and Consulting Services to the Bio/Pharm Industries.

He authored over 25 publications and 2 1/2 books and served on an FDA advisory panel. As a favorite seminar leader, people came from all over the world to learn about Good Manufacturing Practices for the Pharmaceutical industry from him as he was the expert!

Diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer 6 ½ years ago, Steve never stopped living. Every day was a gift and he lived it to the fullest.
