Robert Charles Brower passed away on October 29, 2021, at the age of 88. Bob was born and raised in Bloomfield, NJ and was one of nine children. He excelled in both sports and academics and attended Blair Academy. Even though he was awarded a scholarship to Saint Peter’s College, Bob broke his mother’s heart by enlisting in the Marines during the Korean war. Later he attended Middlebury College and ultimately got his degree from Seton Hall on the GI bill.
Bob loved his family. He married his sweetheart Dorothy on August 30, 1958, and they raised five children in Livingston, NJ. Bob worked as an institutional equity salesman in the brokerage industry for over forty years, with Spencer Trask and Eberstadt being two of his favorite firms. Bob absolutely loved his job because he loved the subject matter, the travel, the friendships with his co-workers and clients, and the vibrancy of New York City. He brought his family into the city often to share with them the amazing restaurants and theater, and for a family of seven, this was very special. Bob also loved the summers he spent with his family down the shore in Lavallette, NJ.
Bob was a wonderful role model. Some of his favorite sayings were: “Always be hungry, humble and hardworking”, “What’s the game plan” and “Semper Fi”. He instilled strong values in his children and was always willing to drop everything to help them. Bob was ever youthful, looking at least a decade younger than his age. He made his health a priority, and while he was always an athlete, he credits Dorothy for keeping him alive. Even with his health declining, Bob always remained positive and continued sharing his wisdom with his grandchildren. Bob was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy; his children Bob Brower (Erin), Pam Nicoll (Keats), Susan Curry (Dan), Cindy Wagner (Tom) and daughter-in-law Jennifer Brower; his grandchildren Matthew, Christopher and Megan Brower, Sam and Jake Nicoll, Ally and Livy Curry, and Emma and Jack Wagner; and his sister Patricia Cestone (Richard).
Bob was predeceased by his son Michael Brower (Jennifer); his parents Margaret and Theodore Brower; his siblings Frances Glover (George), Joe Brower (Rene), Ted Brower (Marilyn), Mary Kondash (Joe), Dorothy Cole (Dave), Dave Brower (Rose) and Margaret Retoske (Bob).
