Richard was born in East Orange, NJ to Henry & Bertha Sauer on December 26th, 1920. He received his master’s degree in Economics from Rutgers University and was married to his beloved wife Lillian Sauer for almost 60 years. They resided in Livingston, NJ for the majority of their lives. He worked as a General Manger in charge of services for over 50 years for Public Service Gas & Electric Company in Newark, NJ.
He was a World War II veteran who served in France and Germany as part of the 398th Infantry 100th division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, and Meritorious Unit Award.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Lillian Sauer.
Richard is survived by his children Linda Hunnewell and her husband Carroll, Curtis Sauer and his wife Linda, Grandchildren Gregory Sauer and his wife Julia, Christine Chatfield and her husband Trevor, CJ Hunnewell and his wife Jennifer, Michael Hunnewell and his wife Lauren, Jessica King and her husband Josh and great-Grandchildren, Hannah & Lucas Hunnewell.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family of Richard wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all friends and caregivers who helped Richard over the last few years.
