Born in Brooklyn, New York, Phyllis grew up on a farm in Millington, New Jersey, graduated from Bernards High School (Class of ’57) and went on to graduate from The University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing. After living in New York City, Dallas and Philadelphia, Phyllis settled in Morristown, New Jersey to raise her two children Michael Bloom and Sarah Bloom Shriver. She eventually moved to Far Hills, New Jersey.
After an early career in nursing, Phyllis went on to become a real estate broker in northern New Jersey for more than 50 years. Phyllis was actively involved in the Morris County community with the Visiting Nurses Association, the Round Towners Twig and the National Historic Homes Registry.
Phyllis had an incredible love of travel and was always planning her next adventure. Her trips took her to 40+ countries around the globe. While she wasn’t traveling internationally, Phyllis loved spending time with her grandchildren on both Coasts and enjoying her home in Naples, Florida.
Phyllis leaves behind her son Michael Bloom (Los Angeles, CA) and daughter Sarah Shriver (Brooklyn, NY), daughter-in-law Stacey Siegel Bloom, son-in-law Bruce Shriver Jr, and grandchildren, Isabel Shriver, Ruby Bloom, Miles Shriver and Leo Bloom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Esther Beck, her sister Merrill Blodgett and brother-in-law Herbert Blodgett.
A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 2:30 PM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
