He was a successful general surgeon for over 40 years with his primary practice at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey. He achieved great prominence in his practice including being president of the medical staff at Clara Maass and president of Essex County Medical Society. He was also on the Board of Trustees at UMDNJ Medical School and University Hospital in Newark.
Peter particularly enjoyed practicing medicine toward the end of his career with one of his sons, Edwin, who now leads the practice.
He took great pride in his family and made huge financial and personal sacrifices - including sending all four of his children to private school, college and professional schools.
He grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey and attended college at Washington College where is eldest son Paul also graduated, and then graduated from University of Rome Medical School.
Peter was also an avid boater and fisherman who held a Coast Guard Merchant Marine license for several decades.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 58 years, Heidi Amirata, and his four children, Paul, Edwin and his wife Kimberly, Adrienne, and Ralph and his wife Marisa, and eight grandchildren; Peter, Michael, Daniel, Rachel, Emily, Amanda, Jack and Alexander.
