Nancy S.Q. Chang

Nancy S.Q. Chang (June 10, 1944 to May 07, 2018), 73 years of age was an accomplished business management professional, a passionate member of The American Society for Quality (ASQ) and The Association of Business Process Management Professionals (ABPMP), a loving daughter of Christ with deep service to her church as well as a loving wife, mother and aunt/grand aunt.

Her life’s work, spanning over 40 years, reflects a commitment to excellence and enduring devotion to her business management profession. Nancy was a management consultant specializing in the areas of Business Process Modeling and Analysis, Operations Review, and Feasibility Study. Nancy has over 20 years of experience in management consulting, and over 10 years of experience in Business Process Management related work. She was an ASQ-Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (since 2008) and an ABPMP-Certified Business Process Professional (since 2011).

As former Vice President and Global Process Analyst at Chase Manhattan Bank, Nancy mentored and provided strategic support to process owners and managers in the design and implementation of IT infrastructure processes.

Subsequently, Nancy’s professional focus centered around the instruction and certification of Six Sigma Green Belt, as well as Certified Six Sigma Black Belt Exam Preparation Classes offered by the ASQ North Jersey Education Committee. Starting in 2014, she developed and continued to enhance a ASQ Business Process Management introductory course for the ASQ North Jersey Education Committee, to understand the process approach requirements in ISO 9001: 2015.

Nancy lately specialized and was certified in Six Sigma and business process management. Having a coaching, facilitation, and management consulting background with leading financial services and medical center firms, she partnered with managers in the execution of continuous improvement initiations and feasibility studies.

Her noted achievements include two Six Sigma Black-Belt projects sponsored by the US Army Research, Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal. She also co-authored an article, “Know More. Do More” in the January 2011 edition of the magazine, Quality Progress.

Nancy was also very active within The Livingston United Methodist Church. She managed the church’s early childcare “Weekday” program for over 20 years. She was in charge of the Audit Committee auditing the church’s finances for over 10 years. In addition, she was active with the church choir, Count team, Coffee Hour team, Pastor Parish Relations Committee and the Administrative Council. She has always served in multiple committees, contributing her thoughts, advice and giving her heart and smiles to any type of activity or discussion.

Nancy was also a lifelong learner, thinker and had a kind, loving, genuine and caring heart. She often liked to play Sodoku puzzles, watch TV marathons of old mystery shows (i.e. Murder She Wrote or Columbo) or travel back in time listening to the 1960’s Motown music era.

Nancy immigrated to the United States from China at age 7. Along with her parents and three sisters, they settled in Chinatown, in the Lower East side of New York City. She attended Baruch College, earning an MBA in Operations Research and BBA in Statistics. She met her husband, Yao Chon Chang during a church retreat shortly after college, married and they settled in Livingston, New Jersey. They are blessed with daughter, Chien-Mei Chang, residing in Massachusetts and currently working within Leadership Development for a clinical research organization.

Nancy S.Q. Chang, a devoted wife and loving mother, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 in Livingston, NJ. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Yao-Chon Chang; her daughter, Chien-Mei Chang; and sisters, Ruth Prosser and Joann Lee. She will be deeply missed by all of her close friends and family.
