Michael is predeceased by his father Hugh McCaffery, and sisters Patricia Cantelmo and Deborah Monaco. He is survived by his wife Katherine, son Nicholas, his mother Joyce, brother Thomas as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
Michael was born and raised in Livingston. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1982. After high school he attended Bloomfield College where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. While working full time he spent his nights studying for the CPA exam which he passed in 1999 and was awarded his Certified Public Accountant Certificate.
Michael’s career started as a staff account at Grabel Moving Company. He left Grabel and went to Sandoz to become a Travel Expense Accountant. As the years went on, his experience increased, and he moved on to become a Senior Account, Assistant Controller and Controller. His last position was with KDF Technologies in Rockleigh NJ where he was the Financial Controller.
Michael always knew the value of giving back and was always willing to help any way he could. While he was employed with Sandoz, he joined the company Fire Squad and graduated from the Morris County Fire Academy. Loving the squad so much he volunteered his time with the Livingston Fire Department and was assigned to Engine 1. When his son Nicholas started to become involved with activities, Michael again volunteered his time becoming a Kinder Kickers Soccer Coach. Scouts soon became a big part of the McCaffery household and Michael gave back to them as well. He would do what he could from driving to different events, helping with community service, projects, joining camping trips and becoming a merit badge counselor. When Michael became an amputee, he knew the importance of support and became a certified Amputee Support Counselor. Over the years he spoke and helped new amputees deal with the hurdles that they would be facing and reassured them the better days were ahead.
Nothing gave Michael greater joy then spending time with his loving wife Katherine who he married in 1996 after dating for 10 years. Michael and Kathy settled in Livingston and began a family two years later with the birth of their son Nicholas. Nicholas was the light of Michael's life. Times together included traveling to different destinations but the happiest of times were just sitting and joying each other's company. Michael also enjoyed his time with friends whether it be around a fit pit, having a game night or enjoying a beer at a local brewery. It was always more about the company that he was sharing these experiences with than anything else.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation for Michael on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 5-8pm at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mount Pleasant Ave. Livingston, NJ 07039.
