Michael Nicholas Cefolo (82) of Livingston, NJ passed away on May 18th, 2023 surrounded by his beloved family. Mike was born to Mike and Rose Cefolo on September 25, 1940 in Newark, NJ. He soon moved to Irvington and attended Irvington High School where he played on the varsity football team, starting both ways as an offensive and defensive lineman.
After graduating in 1958, Mike began working at New Jersey Provisions Company where he became co-owner with his father and Uncle Tony. In 1963, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Genevieve D’Alessio, and moved to Livingston in 1965 to raise his family.
Mike was a passionate sports fan and especially loved the NFL, MLB, and College Football. One of his favorite annual trips was going to a Michigan Wolverines Football game with his wife Gen. Mike was also involved with professional boxing as a trainer with his father, and was an owner of harness racing horses at the Meadowlands with his Uncle Tony and friend, Mike Centanni. He enjoyed playing blackjack at Atlantic City Casinos where he owned a second home in Smithville.
Most of all, Mike’s favorite past-time was spending time with his family. Whether it was hosting everyone at a traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner, July 4th celebrations at his pool, vacations at the Outer Banks, or attending one of his grandchildren’s events, he dearly loved them all. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow up and become the people they are today.
