Joan Brennan

Joan Brennan (Dassing), 91, of Livingston, NJ, entered into eternal rest on November 3, 2021. Joan was born in Newark, NJ on November 2, 1930 to Louis Dassing and Helen Dassing (Martin). She graduated from Irvington High School in 1949 and while in high school was employed by Prudential in Newark. Upon graduation, she worked for 10 years in a management position at N.J. Bell Telephone Company. After taking time off to raise her family, she joined GUYMAR Construction Company as an office manager and worked there for 27 years until her retirement in 2008. Joan moved to Livingston in 1959 and lived in her same home until her passing.

Joan led an active life in Livingston, always involved in school and community activities, such as Girl Scouts and the PTA. She was a daily communicant at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church, taught CCD and was a member of the Rosary Society. For the past 30 years, if Joan wasn’t at St. Philomena’s or spending time with her children and grandchildren, she could often be found walking around the “oval” in Livingston, making new friends with every lap.

Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry, her cherished daughter, Nancy Rynearson, her brother, Louis Dassing, and her sister-in-law, Patricia Conlon. She is survived by her loving children Timothy Brennan (Nancy) and Colleen Brennan (Robert Hoke), her son-in-law, Robert Rynearson and her grandchildren, Cara and Casey Brennan and Patrick and Kelsey Rynearson.

Joan’s greatest legacy was her unending love and devotion to her children, grandchildren, friends, and faith.

Visitation is at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ 07039 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church, 396 S. Livingston Avenue, Livingston, NJ 07039. Entombment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ 07936.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Nancy Rynearson to the CJD Foundation.
