Born in Newark to the late Diana and Jenaro Ramos, Jerry grew up in Irvington, and lived in Cedar Grove, Lincoln Park, and Clark, before moving to South Amboy three years ago.
He spent 26 years with the Irvington Police Department retiring on January 31, 2020, with the rank of Detective Sergeant.
Jerry was kind, loving, and beautiful. He was the kind of man that wore his heart on his sleeve. He honored his profession as a police officer every time he put that uniform on. He was proud of all the brothers and sisters he worked alongside every day and looked out for all the ones he loved.
He created special bonds with his friends and their children. They were such an important part of his life. He supported them by always showing up to games, concerts, weddings, birthdays, and graduations with a smile on his face so proud of all their achievements. Always there with advice and a positive influence. That's our Ramo!!
Please keep passing his kindness on to others. He is the person that made this world a better place. He will be missed every day. Losing him carved a hole in so many lives and your absence will be felt for a long time. May everyone he touched always carry with them a piece of him.
Jerry was the husband of Jennifer Ramos (Ponzini), surrogate father to Joseph Monticello, and brother-in-law of Allison Ponzini and Edward Ponzini and his wife Patti. He was also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and friends.
