A warm funny wonderful loving man! My favorite cousin.

It has taken me a long time to be able to say something after Jeff’s passing. He was my most loved cousin. More like an uncle. A holiday wasn’t a holiday without Jeff and Lila, Lauren and Michael. Unfortunately, that was a lifetime ago. After my Dad’s passing it was Jeff’s advice I would seek when an important decision had to be made. Hearing his voice, his laugh, was just so comforting. So much of our family is gone and it hurts so much knowing that I can not reach out to him any longer. I will miss him for the rest of my life. He lives on in my heart. I love you very much; Lila, Lauren and Michael. I hope I will see you soon and be able to hug you and share memories together

Jeff was such a sweet , kind , funny and most of all, intelligent man. I loved to spend time with him and Lila .We always had so much to talk about.....
I will miss the fact that I will not  be able to talk or see him again.
My son David and I truly loved him  He will be missed very much.

So many memories.
Comparing the books of authors we both liked.
Talking sports , especially how bad our  New York teams were.
And of course all the years of playing pinochle .

It began around June 1943, more than 78 years ago, with us giggling to each other while our moms pushed us side by side in baby carriages in the Bronx. 

To thanking Jeff's dad Mike for always giving him enough allowance to buy new balls when we lost our Spauldings. (Spauldings were balls used for Bronx street games, ala stickball, off the curb etc.).

To hanging out while we attended PS 92, JHS 118 and Roosevelt HS  

To joining my family many times in the Catskills, but never appearing without bagels, bialys, nova or white fish salad.

To our visits "up north" to Jeff & Lila's "mansion" (we only knew of apartments at that time)

To Jeff & Lila's visit to us in Seattle and their nail biting venture up to Mt. Rainier 

To our reuniting in Arizona

and most of all

To our continued conversations and in depth analyses of college football games EVERY Saturday

To our in person March Madness get togethers, and always with a good supply bagels, lox, +++.  

To Jeff's exuberant chants at the referees, coaches and/or players for their idiotic decisions.

To our consoling each others severe depression from April through August when we had to settle for baseball.

I will miss you so much my friend, my Saturdays and March will never be the same. Please control your temper if God should, in your estimation, make a slight mistake now and then.

Small Jeff

Heartfelt thanks for allowing us to attend, via zoom,  this beautiful tribute to Jeff's lifelong friend, Jeff.  This was also a testament  to the kind of love, commitment, acceptance, and joy we can all aspire to create within our own circle of family and friends. 
We add our Amen to these tributes, and our prayers for Shalom to all of the family.

Hello!  My condolences to this wonderful family.  I am a first cousin of Jeff's living in California.  My mother Evalyn was a sister to Jeff's father.  I remember fondly the times spent with Jeff and his family in The Bronx when we were kids.  My brother's name was Jeffrey Neal as well.  He passed away in December, 2019.  Big Jeff (Hauptman) as we used to call him always had that same smile on his face and displayed a marvelous, cheerful demeanor.  I will always remember him fondly.

Were it not for the welcoming embrace of Jeff and Lila, we would never have moved to Grand.  As we got to know them better we saw that Jeff’s exterior could be tough but if he loved you it was all the way.  He always made us feel special and went out of his way to do so.   While Covid has kept us apart for a while, we will miss him very much.  His memory will always be with us.
Carl and I send our heartfelt condolences to Lila and the family.

The Christmas Eve parties with Jeffrey cooking and yelling at all of us, lwith love.  Cards on the porches atPine Grove. And, food fights  at their Yonkers apartment.  I love him to death, because of his love for me when Barry died. I could go on and on.  Needless to say, I love  the entire family and I hope you feel my hugs at the cemetery.

It was a pleasure getting a chance to meet the Hauptmans and work with them. They were like my own parents with the care they showed for my family when my dad was in the hospital. It was so helpful during that time period. We send our Prayers for your family 🙏🏽

Most of the time I spent with Jeff was playing pinochle at Lila and Jeff's home. 
He could be the friendliest man you would ever want to meet but he did not suffer fools gladly. If you were going to play a game of cards with him you were going to play it right.
I will miss Jeff. He was a good friend.

I will always be grateful to the Hauptman’s for opening up their home to me through my middle school and high school years.  Lila and Jeff always made me feel welcome  and loved.  My heart aches for the family.  I’m sending lots of love in honor of a great man.

I immediately connected with Jeff (and Lila) from the day we met.  I enjoyed talking to them about all things East Coast, especially Jewish bakery items.  Talking to Jeff made me feel like I was talking to my own dad.  I only wish they would have met.  My heart breaks for the whole family.  May Jeff's memory be a blessing and sending love and hugs during this difficult time.
