Surrounded by her loving husband, family and devoted caregiver Tamar Lomidze, Elaine (Simon) Chesnov passed away at home on July 19, 2024 after an incredibly full life. She and her husband Gil Chesnov lived in Rockaway, New Jersey for many years.
Elaine was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 6, 1929 to Anna and Abraham Simon and was sister to Jerry Simon previously deceased. She met her husband of 74 years at the age of fourteen and they married in December of 1949. Elaine graduated Jefferson High School in Brooklyn and served as a librarian at the Stone Avenue Children’s Library. After raising their three children Elaine attended Caldwell College and became a valued secretary at Picatinny Arsenal for 30 years.
Elaine’s greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother to eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. They were all her pride and joy. Cooking, playing mahjong, travelling, fashion and decorating were hobbies. Elaine had an affinity for words to encourage strength and perseverance laced with humor which she doled-out to family members and friends.
Elaine is survived by the love of her life Gil Chesnov, children: Jahn Chesnov (Andrea), Sheila Gudis (Steven), and Wendy Dratler (Richard). Grandchildren: Allison Jackson (Terence), Melissa Tucker (Eric), David Gudis (Charlotte), Amanda Stuart (Chase), Amy Salemno (Phil), Stephanie Rosenblum (Craig), Ryan and Joshua Dratler. Great grandchildren: Ava, Alex, Abigail, Sam, Isabelle, Eloise, Zac, Sienna, Leo, and Eliza.
