I just learned of Gary's passing in 1/24. I knew him through professional activities; he always had time for questions from me and from lot of other less experienced psychologists. His sense of humor and insights will be missed; he also trounced me in Words with Friends often.

I am sad I didn't know sooner; May his memory be for a blessing to family, friends, colleagues and former clients.

My name is Guy DeVincentis. I was a patient of Doc G from 2016 off and on. We mostly talked about the Yankees or dogs, just his manner and composure helped me immensely. always had a great suggestion for a problem . I will miss him, and Im sure everyone who know him will to.

It is,with a very heavy heart that I am writing this after learning about the untimely passing of my doctor and friend  Dr. Goldberg. He was my doctor for the past 10 years and helped me navigate the difficulties of chronic pain, disability and phantom pain. I loved him even though he was a Yankees fan and I was for the Mets.  He always spoke so lovingly about his family, especially his wife, Max, Louie, and the "b boys". It was my honor and privilege to have known him, and my deepest sympathy to his wife and family 

Dr. Goldberg was my therapist for several years. I felt safe, understood, and cared for as a person and as patient in his office, (which was warmly and tastefully decorated by his wife).  The work we did in therapy provided deep insight, wisdom, and tools that I have continued to use and likely always will.  I attribute much of my continued progress and success to those seeds we planted.  Our conversations about grief come to mind in this moment, and I wish his loved ones peace and comfort in this time.

I will always remember Gary who taught me and my colleagues so much about the connections between mental health  and physical health.  He was an outstanding contributor to the Essex  Union County Association of Psychologists as well as the New Jersey Psychological Association.  He will be surely missed.

Gary was a true professional.  We spent hours in dialogue over the last five years.  We discussed this last hospitalization before elected and I expressed discomfort.  Gary’s concern was to stay well to avoid medical degeneration.  We routinely discussed his 911 exposure injuries and how they occurred from the fallacy that the Trade Tower site was safe to treat first responders which he did willingly and proudly.  He knew he was deceived and due established program compensation both delayed and not forthcoming.  Truly a societal ugly event.  His solace was the love of his wife, Max his elder dog, and recently Sweet Louie as the source of his greatest pleasure.  He knew the educated realities of life and death and was at peace with them both.  There was no wool over his eyes.  He has driven the rocky road since 911!   Motto: Beware who you listen to.


I have known Gary since I was 10 years old. He has been my free psychologist and mentor but most importantly a dad. Whenever I needed help he was always there. When I needed help to past my French class in high school we would walk Max each Sunday and study the french language. When I needed to pass my math class he will say “Darron get your butt over here and don’t forget your books.”He has took me to my first baseball and basketball games that I will never forget. Gary and Sandi showed my sister and myself what real love is and inspired us to always be happy. I will never forget Gary, he and Sandi will forever be apart of me and who I am. 

We were lucky to live across from Gary for over 20 years. We would see him walking his beloved Max, and later his beautiful Sweet Louie. He was the candyman to all of the neighborhood dogs, pulling treats out of his pockets. When any member of our family was going through a difficult time, Gary was always available to help, with kindness and empathy and wisdom. My favorite memories are of times with Gary and Sandi together - they balanced each other so well and loved and cared for each other so much. Sandi would tell stories about their crazy adventures and mishaps, and Gary would sigh and say, "see what I have to put up with?" We shared so many laughs with them over the years. We will always treasure those memories, and he will forever be missed. 


Gary had been our neighbor for the last 24 years.  He was incredibly kind to us and especially my children, who often would get paid to take care of his pets, which they would have gladly done for free. We would often discuss the Yankees, both the good times and the bad times.

I will miss him greatly as he was one of the happiest people I knew and he was like an older brother to me.

Gary was a wonderful man.  He was my therapist on and off for many years. He gave me love, support and guidance during very stressful times in my life. I will miss him,
And I send love and condolences to his wonderful family. 

I have to thank you for stepping up and being not just a mentor but a dad, a friend, a free psychologist (because I know most people have to pay you good money lol), a chauffeur, Lala’s GG & a perfect example of what a loving man is. We miss you already 🙏🏼

I love how he was game for any fun adventure.

Gary Goldberg was a gentleman, a teacher and a mentor who cared deeply about others. Never before have I known someone more selfless and concerned for the well being of his fellow man, and in fact all living creatures, whether they be four legged or two.  The world is a lesser place without him.  We all can try to live a little more like him, his memory will never fade from our hearts. 

Deepest condolences to Sandi, and to all those who loved Gary. He was a wonderful and wise colleague, and we will miss him greatly. 

Gary enjoyed the Diner En Blanc. This was waiting to go to Governors Island. Gary & Sandy loved going and when they asked me to come I could understand why. I had never seen two happier people.
