Betsy Cohen, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at her home, with her loving family by her side. Born in Orange, NJ, Betsy resided in East Orange for many years, and eventually settled in Roseland. She worked for many years as a supervisor for the East Orange Recreation Department at Soverel Field. Betsy was also a proud educator who brought joy and direction to countless children’s lives. She began her career at Weekday Nursery School in Livingston and finished her career at Prospect Co-Op Nursery School in Maplewood, retiring in 2014.
Betsy was predeceased by her brother, Peter Fess. She is survived by her beloved husband, Barry; her sons and their spouses, Brian, David (Debby), and Scott (Michelle); her adoring grandchildren, Jake, Garrett, Luke, Aubrey, Cole, Dylan, Tyler, Shane, and Brady, as well as her siblings Edward Fess, Paul Fess, Michael Fess, and Nancy McGarrity.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 18th from 4-8 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, October 19th at 10AM at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betsy’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
