Robert Lee Fletcher, Jr. passed away peacefully last Saturday, August 17th at home in the presence of family. Robert was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He also grew and raised his three daughters in Little Rock. From a young age, he played music and found his love for people, love for learning and love for teaching. Robert is a veteran of the Marine Corps. And served in the marine Corps band where he played clarinet. After graduating from Little Rock High (which is Little Rock Central High now) and after serving his country, Robert obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education. He led children’s and adult choirs at church and taught band at school. His evenings and weekends were filled with private music students, so his life was filled with music. As director of the band at Little Rock Central for 20 years, he touched many lives and built upon the stepping stones already laid in the foundation of his legacy. Robert retired from the LRSD in the middle 1990’s and continued working in church music as well as continuing to teach private lessons until after the 2019-2020 school year. He will be dearly missed and often remembered for his great love for music and people.
Survived by his daughters, Sharon Cross (Pat) of Little Rock, Arkansas and Susan Redd of Little Rock, Arkansas; brothers, Richard Fletcher (Kris) of Loveland Colorado, and David Fletcher (Jo) of Benton, Arkansas; grandchildren, Shannyn Finch of Conway, Arkansas, Thomas Redd (Stephanie) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Akina Cherepski (John) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Sean Redd of St Paul, Minnesota, and Ashley Huckabay (Hunter) of Conway, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Annaliese Finch, Jillian Thorpe, Starr Redd, Lainey Thorpe, Sky Redd, Reznor Delamar, Camellia Cherepski, Annie Redd, and Lukas Redd; and many nieces, nephews, amazing family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Dorsey; wife, Dorothy Ann Fletcher; sister, Janise Wilson; his great grandson, Genesis Frank Alan Dorsey, and his second wife, Sheila Fletcher.
