Lenora F. Zulpo Newman passed away on November 22nd, 2024 at the age of 93. She was born on February 23rd, 1931, to John and Angelina Zulpo in Little Italy, Arkansas. Lenora was the second youngest of seven children. She grew up on the family farm, attending and graduating from Bigelow High School, where she met her eventual husband, Harrell Gene Newman. They were married in 1959.
Lenora was a founding member of Christ the King Catholic Church, which she attended regularly until the pandemic. Her faith was central to her life.
Lenora trained as a cosmetologist, and after she was licensed, worked as a hair stylist for many years. She loved helping people look their best.
Lenora had many hobbies. She was an award-winning quilter. She was extremely creative, mastering crocheting, sewing, painting, and ceramics. Lenora was also an accomplished bowler. She took great pride in her yard, garden, and flowers, working diligently to keep things beautiful until she was no longer able (although she vehemently disagreed about not being able).
Lenora was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters (Dominic, Vincent, Victor, Josephine, Johnny, and Ava). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gene in 1996.
She is survived by her only child, Legina Newman Boswell and her husband John, and her grandchildren, Marilyn, Johnathan, and Audrey (Tyler). Lenora is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Gabriel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday December 2, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Lenora will be laid to rest following the service at 3:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be the evening prior, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home with rosary service beginning at 6:00 p.m.
