Carl Edward "Ed" Baskin, age 93, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Ed was born in Graysonia, Arkansas to James Dewitt Baskin and Elsie Lena Digby Baskin on October 17, 1929.
Ed went to Gurdon Public schools from 1935 to 1947 and was the class president for the 3 years in high school. He attended Henderson State University that was known during that time as Arkansas State Teachers College from 1947 to 1951 where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education and met his future wife. He went on to attend Eastern Michigan University from 1959 to 1961 and received his Masters in Education. Ed received his Master in Business Administration at UALR in 1981.
Ed began his life of service when he enlisted in the Army in 1951. He was an infantry officer in the US Army from 1951 to 1971. He served in Korea from 1952 and 1953 during the Korean War. He served 2 tours in Vietnam the first in 1963 to 1964 and again in 1970 to 1971 earning the Combat Action Badge and Bronze Star. He retired in 1971 at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Ed continued his life of service when he joined the State Office of Child Support Enforcement in 1979 to 2000, where he served as the director for 13 years. During his tenure, he turned the states performance from the 3rd worst ranking in the nation to the 5th highest ranking in the nation.
He was a long-standing member and elder at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian church. Ed served as Sgt. of Arms and President of the Lions Club during the 1970's. Later Ed joined the Civitan International Little Rock Downtown Club and served as Sgt. of Arms.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joseph Dewitt Baskin and Samuel Wright Baskin; his wife Reba Jean Thomas Baskin; and his youngest daughter Sandra Kay Baskin.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Karen Sue Baskin Hilburn, Rozanne Lin (Bedu Lin), Deborah Baskin, and Carla Jean Hudson (David Hudson); his grandchildren Brian Edward Hilburn (Michelle), Alane Leach, Natalie Lin Knox (Chris), Hannah Maiyu Lin, Hunter Edward Hudson (Astrid), Haley Ozelle Hudson, Digby Lois Jukes (Brock) and Kimberly Hudson Green (Chris); greatgrandchildren Alana Jean Hilburn, Wasan Leach, Oliver Hudson, Lily Green, Thomas Green, Benjamin Green, Joseph Green and Charlotte Knox.
A service of witness to the resurrection in thanksgiving for Ed's life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church located at 4401 Woodlawn Drive Little Rock, AR 72205.
