Shortly before 4:00 am on the morning of Friday, March 24, 2023 as he slept at his home in Little River, South Carolina, Michael Lee Lucas (age 20) was called Home to assume the place our Heavenly Father prepared for him.
Michael Lee was born in Charleston, South Carolina to proud parents Nicholas Lee Lucas & Kimberly Hicks-Davis. He later lived, for a short while, with his Mother & Maternal Grandparents Ronald & Melinda Hicks in the Linthicum Heights area near Baltimore, Maryland before moving to Little River, South Carolina where he spent the entirety of his life living as a shining example to us all of what it means to be a selfless, decent human being.
Genuine, honest, confident, caring, kind, funny and timelessly handsome with an infectious smile and laugh, Michael was the type of person that whether you knew him for an hour, a day, a year, or his whole life, you could not help but love him and it will be equally impossible to forget him. Fueled by quiet confidence, a swag that drew you to him, Michael did not judge but rather accepted people for who they were. A character trait he was, perhaps, best known for was his willingness to help people any way he could. Ever the advocate for the socially awkward, those that endured cruelty or felt the sting of judgement that comes at the hands of school kids that don't yet know any better could always find shelter with Michael. In fact, this tendency put an end to the bullying of one of Michael's peers in 5th grade. New to the area, not the most athletic and a bit unsure of himself, Logan was having trouble fitting in at school. Immediately shielded from his tormentors, Logan found a friend in Michael Lee. As the years passed, their bond grew to the point that they considered each other brothers and, that same quiet confidence inspired Logan who now serves in the U.S. Navy. Michael was an Angel among us and undoubtedly continues to watch over those he loved, even now.
Michael, a Class of 2020 Graduate of North Myrtle Beach High School, was driven by a strong work ethic. This core value motivated him to land his first job at the age of 13. Determined to be a provider, he remained gainfully employed until his untimely death. Michael, with the help of his Mother, had recently applied with McLeod Health and just 2 days after his passing received notification that he had cleared his background check and was eligible for hire with full benefits. Michael Lee was preparing to start a new chapter in his life as his Fiancé, Anna Victoria D'Elia & he were expecting to welcome a son, Jessiah “Michael” David Lucas, who is due in May. Most recently, Michael enjoyed spending his free time preparing to meet his unborn son, working to provide. He had just welcomed his Mom & Step Dad, Bill, who were visiting to help convert a spare bedroom into a nursery for the baby. Michael also enjoyed skateboarding, tree, cooking, creative outlets such as drawing and had gotten pretty good at the art of tattooing, although his Dad had required him to log a few more practice pieces on others before allowing him to ink him. Michaels favorite pastime and greatest source of joy was spending time with family. Whether it be catching countless flights to visit his Father & extended family in Ohio, flying to Maryland to visit his Grandparents in Baltimore, or enjoying trips to the beach with his Mah-Maw, who enjoyed coming to visit, to something as simple as taking his Mom, Step-Dad, Sister & his Nona to breakfast, or just being a big brother to his sister, Bella, Michael Lee absolutely loved spending time with family. Famous for the "Bear-Hugs" he would wrap his 'Momma-Bear' up in, or for surprising Anna with flowers for no particular reason, Michael will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, Friend, Fiancé & Father.
Although he was not afforded the opportunity to meet Jessiah in this place, Michael is surely spending countless hours getting to know his baby boy before he arrives. He was so excited to start his little family and could not wait to be the first one to hold Jessiah. Michael's face couldn't hide the joy he felt in his heart when, every time Jessiah heard his Daddy's voice he would kick or punch, no doubt trying to give Michael a fist-bump or let him know, "I'm going to be a great kick boxer and a standout player on the football field." Both were dreams Michael had for Jessiah. Dreams that his family will work tirelessly to make a reality. Michael's life was cut short. He had so much left to do. Instead, he leaves behind a legacy of love. A legacy that will now live on through his son, Jessiah Michael David Lucas.
