Mary Leona Thompson Sellers, age 87 of Little River, SC passed away on May 4, 2023. Mary was born in Rowland, NC on September 8, 1935 to Leon and Alice Thompson. Mary is survived by her children Cindy Causey (Charles) and Linda Adams (Charlie); sister Doris McGirt Webster; grandchildren Bryson Sellers (Jenn), Brenton Sellers (Amanda), Linleigh Parke (Chad) and Preston Adams; great grandchildren Jameson, Dylan, Oliva, and James Sellers; “adopted” grandson Sam Bolin; nephew, David McGirt, who she held a special connection with throughout the years as well as many other much loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Earl Sellers, her son, Richard Sidney Sellers, her sisters, Frances Aycock and Betty Jean Pallone.
Mary grew up in Rowland, NC where she is better remembered as “Coochie”. She married the love of her life, Earl Sellers after graduation. They were married on November 26, 1953. They enjoyed 69 years together. Mary has always had a special love for children. She started her own Kindergarten while living in Maxton. Throughout their married life Earl and Mary worked side by side. Their relationship was one of openness, teamwork, and love. Together they opened the “E and M Drive-In” in Maxton. Later expanding their horizons to the “Triple S Restaurant”. After selling the restaurant they moved to Cherry Grove Beach to begin a new adventure, managing VJ’s Motel. They became part owners where they were one of the first to convert their motels over to condominiums. It then became Seaward Villas. During the offseason Mary worked the first winter at NMB Primary as a Kindergarten Aide. She got her Real Estate Brokers License when VJ’s was converted to Seaward Villas. In 1989, Mary’s Little Lambs Daycare was born. Mary was back doing what she loved, taking care of children. This was a family run business which operated for over 20 years. She is known to many as Miss Mary. She has been a positive influence on many children throughout the years. She was a “Grandmother” to many children.
Mary loved the Lord, her husband, her children and her family circle which included relatives as well as friends. She always thought of others first. If you have ever been to her house, you know she is the Hostess with the Mostest. She always kept an open door policy with everyone and there was always room at her table for one more. She made everyone feel special and welcome. Those whose lives were touched by her were blessed from knowing her. Mary was a member of Wampee Baptist Church.
