Judith Mellquist Bishop, daughter of Ethel and Wesley Mellquist, passed away at home at the age of 80 on Friday, September 13, 2024. She is survived by her son Victor, her grandchildren Rosa, George, Wesley, and Scarlet, her niece Kathy and her nephew Tom.
Judi was a strong, independent woman who was very outgoing and loved to talk to people from all walks of life. She loved helping people who were less fortunate than she was, as evidenced by her work in the Department of Social Services in Massachusetts for over 20 years, where she specialized in adoption placements. She succeeded in finding a home for many children, including her grateful adopted son. She was a proud life-long Republican who loved her country and was very concerned about the state of the nation.
Judi enjoyed golf, tennis, the New England Patriots, socializing, and being outdoors. She loved hearing other people’s viewpoints on social matters and never was shy about voicing her opinions. She was always very supportive and quick to offer assistance if she met someone struggling with something. She traveled often in her retirement years, enjoying cruises and trips with her friends as they made lasting memories.
Judi was happy with the way her life turned out. She got to marry her dream husband and they spent many happy years in Tidewater after retirement, doing all the things they loved together. She joins her mother Ethel, father Wesley, sister Marjorie, husband James, and two dogs: Zach and Roark in Heaven.
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Monday, December 9 at 5 PM at Tidewater Golf Club, 1400 Tidewater Drive, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582. All attempts will be made to allow remote attendance also.
