 I met David at JWC. He took me under his wing and I experienced many first in my life through David. One that comes to mind immediately is the day a group of students from JWC went out for a Chinese lunch. I had never eaten Chinese before. David thought that was hilarious. I enjoyed so many fun times with David. One very special "road trip" was the time he invited me to preach at a youth event at Bethel. Awesome memories! What a great example of a Discipler! What a Jesus Chaser!

I remember David well. First as a neighbor, then as a pastor and as a mentor and friend . David and his brother Tim grew up just up the road from me . His parents and mine were friends . They were instrumental in dad buying a house in the area . David and Tim were a little older than me . I still remember them helping teach me how to ride a bike. Later my family would attend the same church as his and i remember well when he was called to preach and many of his early sermons at the old small church and later at the new one . We lost touch later as often happens in life and he later moved to Pastor elsewhere. I thought of him often.  Rest In Peace old friend. I pray for peace and comfort for the family and friends that only God can give . 

Pastor David Lord was one of the finest pastors we have ever known. His wit and wisdom was an inspiration to all, in spite of the challenges of disease in recent years. His wiry smile would melt your heart in a minute,  breaking down barriers and building brides. His passion and pastor’s heart was evident to his last days here on earth.  We will forever be grateful that we got to meet and serve together this side of Heaven. Looking forward to spending eternity with people like David and Gwen.

David,  my big brother.  The boy who printed "The Twist On His Blue Jeans".  We rode our bicycles to the Rock Quarry near our home, slept together in the coldest bedroom in the world ( at Grandma and Grandpa Lord's house).  Used the outhouse in the dead of the winter and bathed outside in a tin tub.  Prayed that Mom and Dad would come home early from the third shift in Cannon Mills so we could sleep at home.  Hid behind the bushes at our home to make people think we were going to church.  A few years later Mom and Dad decided it was time they got their family in church.  I was age 4 and David was age 9 when Helen and Harold Holt invited them to church and from that first Sunday on, we missed very few Sunday morning, Sunday night or Wednesday night services.  We were Blessed to sit under the preaching of Rev. Byron Whitley and family for 17 years and attending so many revival services I can't even count.  Went to Camp Wesley during the summer to hear some of the greatest Holiness preachers on the face of the earth.  Witnessed masses of people at the altars.  Rev. Whitley retired from the ministry and Rev. Beck was chosen to lead our church and he was there only a short time.  He preached one Sunday that when it came time for him to die it would be in the pulpit preaching and the Lord granted his request during Sunday morning service  two weeks later.  David by this time had given his life to Jesus and was called to preach.  He was attending college at John Wesley College when the congregation voted to call him to pastor Bethel Wesleyan Church.  Then began the making of a future pouring out of the Spirit in Kannapolis that is still talked about to this day.  Young people were converted and the church grew by leaps and bounds.  He organized prayer meetings during the week and we called the group the "The Last Resort".  Many young people were also saved through this ministry.  As Paul Harvey would say and that is the rest of the story..........Ask me for the rest!







I met Rev. David Lord just after I accepted Christ. He led a discipleship group called The Last Resort which I became a part of. David was instrumental in my early development as a Christian. I attended John Wesley College where David was the student body president.  David was a gifted preacher and effective leader.

Dear Family and Friends of David Lord,

Marjorie and I wish to share your deep feeling of loss at David's passing. David was not only a fellow minister, he was a special friend to us and our family. We will never forget the way he ministered beyond the norm to  our son-in-law, Scotty Gulledge, while in his youth.  And we will always treasure the common interests we shared every time we were together.  We thank God for his devoted life and ministry. Pastor David was a kind and gentle man, an interesting conversationalist.  He had a vision of reaching people through theater that was unique and thought provoking.  I was privileged to call him friend. Prayers for each family member.

We express our sincere sympathy to Gwen and all of Pastor David's family. It has been such a pleasure to get to know such a kind and gentle spirit.  We pray that God will bless you with many sweet and precious memories!

Too many memories of the times I have spent knowing David to share all but one I can is the time that he came to have dinner at my Moms house.  Mom had baked some kind of pork chops in a special sauce and David would always tell everyone how much he enjoyed those pork chops.  We were in the band and on the wrestling team when in high school.  David was my friend and he was my pastor when I accepted Christ into my life.  David preached some really great sermons at Bethel.  He was passionate for the words of Jesus and wanted everyone to know Christ as he did.  I love David Lord and I know that I will see him again one bright and glorious day!


We have been neighbors for about three years and when we first met David he still had a twinkle in his eye.  He had a quick wit with one liners that always got people laughing.  We wish we would have known him loner because you could tell he was a special person.  He will be missed by all.
