He was a proud US Army Veteran, who served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a sentry and an engineer stationed in Germany. After serving in the Army, he moved back to Chicago where he met his former wife, Terre. The two were married for 14 years and raised two daughters together, Cindy and Sandi.
Bob worked for Gulf & Western Taylor Forge as Vice President of Sales. He retired in October of 1997. During his life, Bob traveled quite frequently, and spent 15 years of his life in Memphis for work. Bob was an active and long-time member of the Romar's Social Athletic Club, and loved to play baseball. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling, and he was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Bob loved word games, and enjoyed doing Soduku, word searches, and playing games that engaged his mind, especially with his grandchildren. He was an avid poker player, and taught his whole family how to play. He was a loving father and grandfather, and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Cindy Digweed, and Sandi (Pat) McManus; grandchildren, Joshua Digweed, Amanda Digweed, Dan McManus, Jacob Digweed, and Erin McManus; and a great-grandson, Jordan Digweed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Helen Oesterreich; and his sister, Joann.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 11am at the funeral home. Friends may greet the family from 10:30am until the time of service. Interment will be held privately at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
