Richard P. Thorn, 90, passed away peacefully in his Lisle home surrounded by his loving family on August 12th, 2024. Beloved husband of 44 years to Yvette nee Rodig. Richard was born in Chicago, IL to the late Edward and Alicia (nee Patterson) Thorn and he proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Richard will be remembered as a cherished friend, whose laughter and candor left all who knew him better for their time together. He fondly talked about his love of books and 15 years of serving on the Lisle Board of Appeals. Richard enjoyed many years working as the General Manager of the Electronic Graphics Division at R.R. Donnelley that established numerous life-long friendships among his colleagues.
Richard could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere, which led to friendships far and wide. He was a true sportsman who enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs with a fresh batch of White Castles. He could build or fix most anything— often helping those who needed software and computer repairs. It was his true servant’s heart that would light up the room when he was around as well as the Walmart lines where he selflessly provided to those in need.
Richard’s love for his family was boundless. His personal warmth and silly sense of humor will leave his legacy of kindness, humility, and loyalty to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His many friends, family, and colleagues will deeply miss Richard deeply.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Yvette (nee Rodig), children Terri (Doug) Maxeiner, Richard (Eleanor) Thorn, Lynn Marie (Antonio) Cibils, Robert Thorn and Tim (Jaymie) Thorn; his dear grandchildren, Samantha Thorn, Christopher (Elizabeth) Maxeiner, Joseph (Jessica) Thorn, Jacquelyn (Robert) Kurtz, Thomas Maxeiner, Baleigh Thorn and Ty Thorn; cherished great-grandchildren, Lillian Maxeiner and Harper Maxeiner. Beloved brother to Helen Moag. Fondest Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alicia (nee Patterson) Thorn, sister, Rita (nee Thorn) Forman and brother, Edward Thorn; grandson Patrick Maxeiner and great-grandson Gabriel Maxeiner.
Richard’s family invites his friends, family, and community to celebrate his life. A visitation will be held from 4 PM – 8 PM on Sunday, August 18th, 2024 at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Avenue, Lisle, IL 60532.
