It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Mark Jerome Sweeney who left us on October 23, 2024 at the age of 83. He cherished his time with loved ones and passed peacefully surrounded by his family.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents Gene and Gayle, son David and daughter Megan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie; children Jim (Jeanine), Michelle (John), and Patrick (Kirsten); siblings Marcia, Gwen (Dennis) and Robert (Kathy); grandchildren Brennan, Ben, Davis, Alexandra and Eleanor and many loving, nieces, nephews and extended family. Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and co-worker.
Born December 13, 1940, Mark graduated from Drake University in 1964, served his country in the Army Reserve and worked 30+ years for Sears primarily in men’s wear. He was a lifelong White Sox fan, loved sports and an avid golfer.
In his retirement, he enjoyed working at Cantigny Golf Club, managing the Megan Sweeney Scholarship Fund and bragging about his grandchildren’s athletic, academic and other achievements. Known for his deep connections with family, friends, and everyone he met, he found his greatest accomplishment in life through the joy he shared with others. With a warm smile, a playful spirit, and a memory for every conversation, he made people feel truly known. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing a laugh or story with him, and we take comfort in knowing he’s now on the fairway to peace.
A visitation for Mark will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Blake-Lamb Funeral 5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle, IL 60532. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 2600 West 75th St., Woodridge, IL 60517 with burial to follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien, IL.
