Stanley F. Koczur, age 97, formerly of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born to the late Piotr and Angela (Kawalec) Koczur, Stanley lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love. A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and the post-war occupation of Japan. For his contributions, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). Stanley spoke often of his time in the service and remained proud of his role in defending his country.
After the war, Stanley dedicated 30 years of his professional life to the Elizabeth Board of Education, where he built a legacy of hard work and commitment.
Stanley was the beloved husband of Erna Koczur, his devoted wife of 42 years. He is survived by his children: Stephen (East Stroudsburg, PA), Michael and his wife Dawn (Louisville, NE), Lisa and her husband Ray (Elizabeth, NJ), and Diane and her wife Mary (Carlsbad, CA); as well as his stepson Michael and his wife Jenny (Rockwall, TX). Stanley was a cherished grandfather to Michael, Ashley, Brian, Alex, Megan, Matthew, Jeremy, Mia, and Samantha, and a proud great-grandfather to Riley, Grace, Arlo, and Nicholas.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Mary, Ana, Helen, Stephanie, Genie, Frank, Joseph, and Albert, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
In retirement, Stanley and Erna embraced the joy of travel, exploring Germany, cruising the seas, and creating countless memories during summer vacations with their grandchildren. He took immense pleasure in celebrating family milestones and sharing stories of his life's journey.
Stanley will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his sense of humor, and his enduring pride in his service to his country. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and dedication that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Stanley will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Visiting for Stanley will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, 4:00-8:00 pm at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, Linden.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, November 23, 2024, 9:00 am from the funeral home. Funeral mass St. Adalbert RC Church, Elizabeth 10:00 am. Interment St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
